Dang, I can't believe BOTF is 18 years old already. Feels like just yesterday that I took it out of the box for the first time, beginning thousands of hours of fun...




Did you buy game when it was first released?
If not when did you start playing?
Nope.

I did notice the game sitting on the shelf right away, but I was too broke to get it at the time. I figured I'd hold off on until my birthday in December, as I figured I could use my birthday money to purchase it then. However, several of my friends (who knew I'd been salivating over BOTF) beat me to it; they all pitched in to buy the game and surprised me with it just a few days after my birthday. I was forced to endure certain...trials in order to get at the box (long story for later! ), but it was worth it in the end.

Romulans!

Federation

In the vanilla game, it was always a 4-way tie between the Edo, Trill, Vulcans, and Zakdorn.


What is your favorite ship?
In vanilla BOTF, the K'vort.

i was a teenager when it came out so had to wait over 2 months until my birthday to get it but with enough nagging and a spock worthy logical argument i got in June
In Nemoys voice "But mother, i will be almost back in school by the time its my birthday, logic dictates if i got my bday present early i could play it all summer but if im in school i could only use it 5 or 6 hours a day"

Yes, I did. PC Games had an article where the game was covered beforehand, so we were drooling to finally get it. I think, I rode to Media Market by bycicle just to get it.

The Mintakans. First race I encountered and which instantly joined. These minor races are still one of my favourite parts of the game.

hard question. so much good stuff out there. for SP it's BoP and for MP it's Uncivil Wars.

Did you buy game when it was first released?

I bought BotF in the year 2000 and had no idea what kind of game it was. I was just a TNG/DS9-Fan who liked the cover. Then I played it without reading the manual. I was disappointed about the beam weapons which weren't canon and the enemies took my colonies. The sabotage was also annoying.

Who is your favorite major race?

After all the years it's still hard to say for me. I play them all from time to time. My favorite ST race in general are the Klingons, but I play also a lot with the peaceful, honorable Federation. The great thing in BotF: Every empire has it appeal.

Who was the first race you played?

Humans.

Who is your favorite minor race?

So many great minor races...
1. Betazoids (very very handy)
2. Letheans (in my personal mod, half as good as Betazoids)
3. Vulcans/Trill/Caldonians (research boost)
4. Ferengi (in my personal mod, more credits)
5. Zakdorn (in my personal mod, more crew experience)
6. Breen (in my personal mod, more weapon tech)
7. Mizarians (very useful, if good system)
8. Nausicaans
In vanilla Angosians and Ullians have very handy special buildings.

What is your favorite ship?

Depends on the empire I'm playing. Every empire has nice ships.

We could have one room for chat and others rooms for some gaming.

@Kurn: My friends purchased BOTF for me in late 1999 as a combination birthday/Christmas gift (my birthday is in December). They knew I'd had my eye on this game for a few months at that point, plus they were all aware of my longstanding love of both Star Trek and strategy games. Still one of my favorite gifts ever!

We have now past 19 years....

The Ferengi are the comedy element in the original botf and I had first a lot of fun with them, but it's not canon that they are a superpower in the alpha quadrant compared to the others. It's weird that the developers of botf made them a superpower, especially a real mighty empire in the game.

They were originally intended to be a (the?) major adversary in TNG.

The Cardassians were also never quite in the same league as the 3 majors.
