Fix for Bigger Galaxy creates Smaller Map

Post by Gul Sea »

Hey hope someone can help me with this.

I used UE to make the vanilla galaxy a little bigger but that had the result of making the galaxy grid map view very small.

I searched through the forum and tried using the QD resolution patcher but it didn't work. (I suspect I'm missing something)

I'd appreciate if someone would outline a step by step on how to fix this. Thanks.

Apologies if this bump is against BOTF etiquette, but some help would be gratefully received.

please tell us what you have tried with QD resolution patcher. (detailed)

it would help to know exactly what you are editing (mod/version)

Thanks Thunderchero

I first tried the following:
1) installed vanilla using the all in 1 installer
2) patched with Flocke's mpr++ installer
3) went to c drive and extracted the stbof.res to a folder
4) launched bofrespatch-20111119-w32, selected he stbof.res folder and ran the patch
5) launched UE and amended the galaxy dimensions
6) launched game - bigger galaxy but small map.

I then uninstalled vanilla and tried a second time
1) installed error correction mod 1366 (my laptop supports 1366)
2) went to c drive and extracted the stbof.res to a folder
3) launched bofrespatch-20111119-w32, selected he stbof.res folder and ran the patch
4) launched UE and amended the galaxy dimensions
5) launched game - bigger galaxy but small map.

I prefer to play vanilla with the bof patcher's patches and bug fixes applied, along with Flocke's mpr++ and some tweaks to ship stats.

If you need anymore info let me know.

try this order

1) installed vanilla using the all in 1 installer (the resolution you want)
2) launched UE and amended the galaxy dimensions
3) went to c drive and extracted the stbof.res to a folder
4) launched bofrespatch-20111119-w32, selected the stbof.res folder and select trek.exe (enter resolution you installed by all in one) run the patch
5) patched with Flocke's mpr++ installer (800 x 600 version)

It worked! Thanks Thunderchero for your help. It's amazing to finally have a bigger galaxy to play with.

I noticed a few others over the years have posted with the same problem as me. Perhaps you could add an extra section on the bigger galaxy tutorial page? https://www.armadafleetcommand.com/botf ... ial-for-ue
