Original CD version 1.0.0

Post by thunderchero »

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for the first release of Birth of the Federation version 1.0

I would like to do some comparison of the early code changes that Microprose made on certain fixes between version 1.0 and 1.0.1

If you explore the CD you can look at readme.doc and in title you will see;
Version 1.0
or
Version 1.0.0

I am not sure but think it was only available in US version? but could use German version if it was available.

I do not need cd, a full iso would be great.

Send me a PM and if needed I can walk you though creating iso and figure out a way to upload.

so please check your cd for me.

Thanks for reading,

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the support so far, I now have (UK) version 1.0.0. but it uses an "encrypted with SafeDisc" icd file with smaller trek.exe.

So now If any (US) versions of 1.0.0 have standard trek.exe I would still be interested.

I've looked for my disks, I've got two copies somewhere, but I've not found them. I think it's been like 18 years since I installed off them and I've moved four or five times since then. Not even sure which version they are, but if I ever find which of many boxes they are in, I'll check for you.

U can decrypt safedisc using unsafedisc tool it's very old but used to work.

For backup purposes of course ;)

unSafeDisc v1.5.5 - GameCopyWorld

I have already done this as a temporary solution, but if us version trek.exe is available I would prefer it so re-location table is correct.

Ah ok, looking at gcw it seems us version exe is called USTrek.exe so should be a easy identifier for US version.

Not sure if it helps but more exes here.

thank you for your suggestions, but I have tested all of those and then some, it is possible it was never as a full trek.exe in version 1.0.0 (only safedisc files).

this is why my request to check US version original cd's for trek.exe

all 1.0.0 UK/German version are safedisc only.

I looked for my old BOTF CD last night, although with no success. I'm off tomorrow, so I'll try and make time for a more thorough search.

Pretty sure any botf cd will have safedisc protection, could be wrong but I've not heard of a protection that some do some don't. Best of luck tho.

Sorry, couldn't find either of my disks. Starting to think I accidentally threw them away during one of my moves. :(

Thanks for looking eber3 and all others who have also looked,

it would still be nice to have a correct relocation table trek.exe, but I have started analyzing the converted one I have.

I found original discs of Windows 2000 server, XvT, Ultima Online T2A, but alas, not my BotF disc.

I will keep looking for it an the manual I bought along with it. But odds are low and shrinking of finding either.

If you do not have original CD personally I am not interested.

be careful what you download, there is a lot if viruses out there, and there was never a official 1.0.3.

Ok, my lovely wife found my original disc today, I have inspected it and it is indeed 1.00.
I shall proceed to rip it into an .iso, let me know how I can get it to you.

I tried attaching the Trek.exe, invalid file type.
I renamed it to Trek.txt and it was too large.
