Showing my age but are there any 80s/90s Starflight fans here? Growing up with Star Trek I dreamed of a game where I could command a starship exploring a huge galaxy encountering aliens and landing on strange worlds. Starflight was the first ever game that granted that wish (before all the good Trek games finally came along) as it had hundreds of different planets to explore and lots of strange aliens to either battle or trade with in space. Naturally I’d call my ship the ISS Enterprise and give all my customized crew members Trek names Eg the Captain would be Kirk, Science Spock, Engineer Scotty, Communication Uhura, Navigator Sulu and Doctor McCoy. Unfortunately I’d run out of positions after that, sorry Chekov haha! Although in the early game when it was too expensive to train up your crew you could use reasonably skilled androids in the roles so naturally they got called Data lol. I grew up playing the 90s SF1 remake on Sega Genesis but most people probably know the 80s PC & Amiga versions more. After SF2 the series had been dead for like 30yrs yet amazingly now in 2018 its original designer Greg Johnson is crowdfunding a new sequel. So if any other 80s/90s Trekie kids used to channel their inner captain Kirk/Picard though Starflight like I did then I thought I’d let you know lol.

Huh, I'd never heard of Starflight, but it looks cool.

hi Blake,
perhaps Star Control: Origins is for you. It launched just two days ago. It's a fun, story-driven game with nice combat and exploration. It's deeply connected to its old roots of the early 90s. Heck, when you give your character a name in the beginning, you're greeted with an Amiga Workbench UI.
It's from the same guys who made Sins of a Solar Empire and Ashes of the Singularity.
Definitely check it out!

Actually, they didn't make SoaSE or AotS, they published them. I think they had some input, but they're not the developers.
As for SC:O, they're trying to steal the SC IP from the original creators, so that game is kind of tainted...

He was also very excited about Ghosts of the Precursors. Until he was not.

Re: Starflight 3
hahaha.. yup!
Well it looks like it was all for nothing sadly. Just over a day to go and the Starflight 3 crowdfund is barely over halfway. 30 years waiting for a sequel and its fails due to not enough media attention. So many thousands of SF fans out there (SF1 was apparently the first ever game to go platinum with 1mil sales back in the 80s) that never got to hear about this. Such a shame!
But there's still hope as Greg & Anthony said in a recent podcast that they'll look at improving the demo and may try a crowdfund again in the future or secure a publisher. If you're a big Starflight fan and you come across this thread long after it's too late, come join the starflight facebook group and they'll let you know the next time anything happens with SF3 (if there's a next time *sigh* ) plus the group is following a rather impressive Starflight 1 remake from a ex-bethesda employee so all is not lost for us old SF fans!
