Optimal PC for running BOTF

As we all know, despite being a game released in 1999, BOTF runs like a snail.

I was wondering if there's a particular PC set up that would run the game fastest - more memory, faster processor etc?

Have we already reached "fastest-BOTF" with modern machines?

the system is not the issue. The problem is the code BOTF uses, it uses "smartheap"

smartheap limits memory and cpu usage so systems in 1999 would not run out of memory. The code has not been found to expand memory usage, if it is even possible.

So it does not matter how good or bad your system is, the game just runs slow as game progresses. Most of the time this starts to happen around turn 100.
