Hi Everyone,
As some of you might have seen here installer is going though so major changes.
Next change I would like some input on is using the Dynamic Widescreen Zoom-In for Any Galaxy Grid on most widescreen versions.
first most of these mods were created before increased resolutions, So all mods were developed originally with 4:3 galaxies
when I started the installer with increased resolutions I edited maps to fit new map area on widescreen versions.
This created poor generation of elliptical, spiral and ring types when selected.
with the Dynamic Widescreen Zoom-In for Any Galaxy Grid patch will restore proper generation of those galaxy types.
the only down side will be when viewing full map we will have empty space on each side of the map.
(zoom in view will still display full area)
thoughts?
my thoughts
this will improve galaxy generation
this should allow MP game cross all resolutions (untested)
keeps maps as original developer intended
Changes in next BOTF installer

Re: Changes in next BOTF installer
I don't see any issue having space on each side of the screen.
The benefits you've listed more than make up for it, particularly if it enables more MP compatibility across resolutions.

Further advantages of 4:3 galaxy grid-maps:
- fairer starting positions (borders/flanks)
- better for AI
Untested idea based on 4:3 larger maps -> 'slight' increase of horizontal sectors (but breaks inter-resolution MP compatibility)
E.g. +2 depending on size would allow for better elliptical larger maps by thunderchero? EDIT: not for random vertical orientations.

I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.
Re: Changes in next BOTF installer
I don't mind the 4:3. It stays true to the original and honestly I feel there are more pros than cons. The stretched 'east to west' galaxy we have now is good for 1 vs 1 irregular games but otherwise feels a bit off.
