1.0.3 project

Post by thunderchero »

Hi Everyone,

The next set of installer have been uploaded for testing. PM me if you are interested in testing.

But first here is a little information on new files.

First the way the old installers added files to your game.

It would use the vanilla files and add files to it. So if the install that was used had been altered it could affect the mod you were installing. This could give very bad results.

So what I have done to prevent this is remake the vanilla installer. (Multi_BOTF_1.0.2_English.exe and Multi_BOTF_1.0.2_German.exe) Now these installers will create a backup file named (backup.res) this is basically a full installation off game that has been compressed. This file is used when mod are installed to keep unwanted file from corrupting mod.

These files have almost no changes to them from vanilla cd version. Here are the changes;

1. All 512x512 gifs converted to 256x256 for hades
2. No cd trek.exe added
3. No cd preset up when installed (with no cd needed during install)

These were only changes made so there should be no problem playing with someone using cd version in multiplayer game.

Now for the Pros for new installer.

1. No cd preinstalled
2. Hades preinstalled
3. Able to use multi versions on your system without having to uninstall and reinstall.
4. Less chance of corruption of files of mods
5. Adding new icon for each version and mods to your desktop (install option during install)
6. Uninstaller is added to your “add and remove programsâ€

This is done by making a copy of all files in installpath before mod is installed to new folder for mod.
Just for clearness:

Let's say I've installed BOTF_1.0.2_German.exe and then I will install a english mod (or vice versa).

Does this work or would that require 102english & german installations?
I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.

yes this will work both ways but if mod has videos or sound with mod it uses mod files.

so if you install german 1.0.2.exe and install UDMIII (only english files)you would have english text from lexicon and any tga's that mod replaced and sound from mod would all be english.

If no file for sound are in mod you are installing, you would only have text changed by modder.

EDIT: this is how I set everything up
I use english so installed 1.0.2 english first
then installed all english mods and 1.0.3
uninstalled 1.0.2 english
installed 1.0.2 german
installed both full german versions BOP and 1.0.3 german
uninstalled 1.0.2 german
installed 1.0.2 english

now I have: 1.0.2 english, 1.0.3 english, 1.0.3 german, bop1.1english, bop 1.1 german, UDMIII, UM4, uncivilwar all installed on system and in drop down menu on warzone.

this took 2.49 gigs of space and all folders are in botf install folder.

Well i got the new paatch/mod installed and i've been busy lobbing out the vanilla ships for the ones i had put in for the all the ages mod i'm doing for myself.

A lot easier this time round because of the palettes being reduced already, ( i didn't realise there was a hotfix for it until i'd blundered my way though them) and so far from the little testing i've got done so far, no crashes :)

Just need to find me an origional connie class and that's the shiplist sorted.

BOTF_1.0.2_German.exe + multi_BOP1.1g.exe

Crashes with retextured ships:

File: texture.cpp, Line: 378, i == GOOD_READ

-R'derex
-Defiant
-Sovereign

EDIT3:
The same with BOTF_1.0.2_English.exe +multi_BOP1.1e.exe

EDIT:

BOTF_1.0.2_German.exe + multi_1.0.3_German.exe "new vanilla"

AI fleet buildup bug -> NOT fixed

EDIT2:

-No Phaser mod included
-Torpedeos Ferengi (Feds?)
I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.

You would need to use german cd or iso to get effects. sound in german and text in german.

Think i am a bit confused.

i downloaded the udm 3 last week and working great thanks.

but are we now to delete everything to do with botf now and load 1.0.2? cant find 1.0.3 on the download section. since its a new one i put date order and not there.

all this modding is a bit new to me so sorry if i ask a few questions.

i am assuming the 1.0.3 mod makes a folder and then more folders inside for each mod? and somehow you chance between the one you want to play from different exe files?

and that using 1.0.2 or 1.0.3 means you wint need to mount drive which is what i am currently doing.

thanks

The project is currently in pre release phase. Thus if the botf version or mod you want to play already runs fine on your system, there is no reason for reinstallation yet.

Try to re-read first post above, it already answers all your questions.

I think it might be a good idea to rename multi_BOP1.1e.exe in multi_BOP1.1English.exe and multi_BOP1.1g.exe in multi_BOP1.1German.exe, in order to establish clarity.

ah... the feeling of just going to the menue, loading any mod you want - be it bop, ucm, or udm - and seeing it appear, just before you wimsically decide to change it to a different mod... and have it all work smoothly... nice feeling.. next best thing since WZ... thanks, Thunderchero
