Re-uploaded, as there was indeed a problem, but it had to do with minors trying to colonize systems. The game crashes when they do.
Since there is only one minor with colony ships currently (the B'omar), the game would only crash if they were spawned. A hotfix was uploaded just now, only 4 people had downloaded the previous version.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yep, that's one of the annoying bugs still waiting to be fixed.

This change was on the test version, but didn't make it to the release version...
Will be on the next release.

Thanks for your work.

Two questions:

Is it not possible anymore to buy structures? I can't find the appropriate button.

And something really small in terms of lore:
Should the Federation and Sol really have the Religious holiday event? Aren't Humans pretty much Atheists in the Federation?

there's no option yet to buy anything - not implemented yet

Religious Holidays is the only Scripted Event implemented yet, for all races!

From http://botf2.square7.ch/wiki-files/down ... extes.docx and older http://www.botf2.com/Shared%20Documents ... Events.txt

Religious Holiday
(Complete loss of production in a random system for one turn...)
FED:
The Federation is receptive to the religious views of its citizens, and the workers of system {0} have downed their tools for a religious celebration. System output may have temporarily ceased, but our citizens are enjoying a day of feasting and celebration. It's good to be in the Federation!
KLING:
ROM:
CARD:
DOM:
Glory be to the Founders! On this most holy of days, the people of {0} have shed aside their tools to give thanks for the blessings the Founders have provided. System output may have temporarily ceased, but that is a small price to pay so that the people may show their adoration for the Founders.

Like Reg already mentioned, the "Buy" option wasn't implemented yet - but it'll, eventually. Not exactly a Buy option, but a "Rush" option though. You'll be able to rush production instead of out-right buying the item.

As for Religious Holiday, it was implemented as a test for the implementation of random events, and honestly it's really annoying. I should probably disable it...

Nope, apart from a couple tweaks, there's no work being done on the AI. Overlord hasn't said anything since he released his initial work, and Bloodwurm should be busy with RL until the end of the summer.
Probably the only other thing I'll try to improve in the AI will be how it builds colony ships, making it more dynamic; instead of building a fixed number of those, it'll build them according to availability of targets for colonization. Building stations in colonies and thus expanding colonization range, maybe, but I don't want to be hacking Overlord's code.
One of my priorities right now is combat. It should be tweaked, and there are a couple of crashes that need to be nailed.

I haven't had much time to post about improvements, been kind of busy with actually implementing some fixes and improvements. RL also gets in the way sometimes...
To show the game is not dead yet, which is a question that inevitably arises from time to time  , here's a little news update.
The next release will feature improvements like Orbital Battery count in the system panel, a shipyard indicator in the starmap, minor race stations (Edo Guardian and Ocampa Caretaker's Array), and some more minor stuff.
