Just uploaded a new patch.
I've increased range for colony ships like mentioned in another thread, and made a few more improvements to colony management: the AI should now activate some Intel PFs (to defend against terrorism), build Elite Academia and the like, Scanners, Moon Habitation, Health, Ground Combat/Defense, and handle activating OBs better.

I noticed that Scouts from minor races don't often return to their homesystem, will have to check why...

For full context, I ran this test on a Win7 desktop with 8GB RAM.
Medium galaxy, Early start, Normal research.

Game performance was good, with turns taking less than 3 seconds before the game crashed at turn 179 - the OB indexing issue again... this was AI only though, as I was simply mashing the turn button.

The colony ship range change is very effective. By turn 40, all empires had 5 colonies (except the Roms who had only 4 due to being in one corner of the galaxy - will have to reduce the likelihood of that happening). By turn 160, the Roms had 6, the Klings had 7 (they were not much better than the Roms location-wise, and very close to them), and the rest had 10~13; most empires had all their systems fully terraformed. The Cards and Dom had colonized a couple more systems by turn 200, when I stopped the test.

Ok, uploaded a new patch with the ondulating borders disabled. Can you please test it and report back?
Also finally fixed the food handling, and added the health bonus to pop growth.
Working on getting the AI to build Intel PFs.

Forgot to mention that previous savegames are not compatible with the latest patch, due to some changes I made - removed some still unused code. Might re-add the code if someone wants to continue their games.

Something strange I noticed, if I turn *off* the Use Animated Stars setting, that's when the UI lag seems to start... can someone check please?

Made homesystems of empires not spawn close to the edges of the galaxy; needs some more testing for other galaxy types/sizes, might throw a gal gen error.
Also made the Borg spawn in the upper right corner of the galaxy.
Implemented a Propulsion TL-based bonus to the maneuverability of ships in combat.
Implemented a Construction TL-based reduction to the planetary damage suffered from orbital bombardment.

A Construction TL-based reduction to the damage taken by ships/stations/batteries during combat, similar to the Defense stat of ships in BotF, might not be a bad idea too?

If savegames are no longer compatible you should name it a new version instead of patch ;-).

I*ll test the newer stuff once I finish my current game...dont want to quit now 278 turns after start :-)

Hehe, not really, savegames are not compatible because I removed a (not-used) property of the civ manager. There wasn't actually any significant change, but stored data has obviously changed. I actually added it back a couple of hours ago, to try to keep saves compatible. I'll keep the cleaning up for some time closer to the next release.
I want to get the survey-only-once issue done soon, but I'd like it to be tested before release - that will break savegame compatibility too, and if I don't release it as a patch, I'll risk a bugged release. I'd prefer to avoid that. These test patches help with clean releases.

Hi,
I met twice an error probably related to a system assimilation by Borg. Version 20191223+20200107. I can hear a "resistance is futile" text, but a crash is just after that. Fortunately autosaves are created before the crash and are OK.
Error 20200117.txt
(15.05 KiB) Downloaded 85 times

And a second error, more typical I suppose:
Error 20200115.txt

Thanks for the reports geordie.
Were you playing as the Borg and assimilated a system? If so, was it a minor race or an empire's colony?
Or was it one of your colonies that was assimilated by the Borg AI?

Do you still have that autosave?

Unfortunately I have no related autosave. I restarted the game too quickly and overwrote it. Simply I did not suspected that the autosave was created after the crash. I played as Romulans and Borg assimilated one of my colonies established too close.

I wanted to test how many ships I would need to defeat the Borg 8 ships, but unfortunately a supernova in the system accuired by Borg ended the testing in a more efficient way.

Ok, thx.
Did the crash happen in the turn that the Supernova triggered? I mean, were the 2 events simultaneous, the assimilation and the supernova?

---

I should be uploading a new patch soon. New stuff:
- exploration AI improved
- colony management AI tweaked (WiP)
- colonizing a system next to the border of another civ will affect relations with that civ
- fixed a bug where a non-combat fleet could blockade trade
- fixed PercentTradeIncome to be an empire wide bonus
- tooltip in labor pool showing available labor

No, the supernova was a couple of turns later, after gathering my fleet and take off towards the Borg colony.

BTW - after eliminating all other Borg systems, the Borg status at the diplomacy panel is still 'At War'.

About AI - Borg did not expanded the exploration, the assimilation of two minor races based only on the range from Unimatrix 01.
Klingons did not build OBs, so the conquest was easy.
Feds remained in Sol system only, unlucky neiborhood, but no attempt to build single outpost
I needed about 300 turns to complete the research tree, starting with slow research setting (huge galaxy), building more science units, but not forcing that too much

Will check. Just out of curiosity, did you destroy the Borg colonies through bombardment, or did you invade any?

IIRC shipyards are destroyed on assimilation. The Borg need to build their own shipyard, which should take some time as it is kind of expensive. This was designed to slow them down.
Also notice that they still use the colony's previous industry, which might be low if it was a low tech minor. I haven't managed to address the rest of the Production Facilities for the Borg (except Food) yet...
Klingons did not build OBs, so the conquest was easy.
If they were at war, they should have. OBs are somewhat low priority if not, though.
Feds remained in Sol system only, unlucky neiborhood, but no attempt to build single outpost
Like already mentioned, the AI doesn't know how to build outposts for expansion yet. I'll have to deal with that at some point.

You're still playing 20200107, right? I changed the research costs in 20200114 or something.
I'm also starting work on only allowing surveying each anomaly once per survey ship tier.
After these changes, it should be better.

New patch uploaded.
