Multiplayer

Post by ZStanley14 »

Hello! Very happy about this ongoing project, but me and friend are trying to play the game through multiplayer. Also through the internet, not direct connection. Is this option possible yet? If so, how do we do it??? We have the same, most recent version, and are disturbingly psyched by the prospect of a new BOTF game. I played a turn on single player, and I know that this game may be The One. Look forward to hearing from you, with bated breath.

Hey ZStanley14!
Glad you guys like the game!

Re MP, yep, it's very much possible, ever since the beginning of the project really. The procedure is very simple:

Both must select Multiplayer from the Main Menu and set your Player Name (once you set this, it will be used for your SP games too). One of you must Host the game, by selecting Host Game (only available when you set the Player Name).
The Host then must provide his IP to the other player(s), and they insert it in the Direct Connect box and hit Connect.
The Host selects the game options for the game, and the civ each person wants to play, and then Start.
And that's it. You then have a lot of fun.

There are a few issues with MP,

https://bitbucket.org/mstrobel/supremac ... unreliable

https://bitbucket.org/mstrobel/supremac ... p-autosave

https://bitbucket.org/mstrobel/supremac ... ayer-saves

https://bitbucket.org/mstrobel/supremac ... ept-reject

but it's still very much playable at this point.

I know you mentioned not wanting direct connect, but there aren't any servers set up for the game.

Also, if you guys are playing on Win10, be aware of some issues that are not related to the game but the OS, and they can be circumvented.

Any feedback you can provide is extremely welcome! There's a bunch of stuff that has been implemented but hasn't been tested in MP - I usually try to test in "hotseat" mode what can be tested easily/quickly, but it's not really the same.

Have fun, and thanks! Let us know if this is The One.

Oh, so just to be clear, we still have to be "in the same room" then, is that right? THe IP must be within a local router network for this to work

Nope. A few years ago we played several games with people across the globe.

The patch is live. Also uploaded the updated Resources to BB.

The Host will need to configure his router, BTW, but not the other players.
Check port 4455.
