Thank you. The first two didn't change anything but using DXWND has allowed it to run in a window.

Couple questions if you don't mind:

1) I take it I now need to run DXWND every time in order to play (by Run, when selecting the green dot of one of the games), my desktop icons will no longer work? (not a big deal, just curious)

2) I've managed to re-size/maximize the window in the 'Modify' options, but when running it in Maximized (or pretty much any setting), the resolution is really grainy now, to the point where it's actually hard to read System names on the map screens, really hard on the eyes. Windows also keeps popping up with a message, stating that the colour scheme has been reset to Windows Basic. I'm not sure if I'm missing something but I don't see any way to increase the resolution so that it looks 'normal' again..

yes, they will work. just you would need dxwnd open in background

best thing would be to uncheck "run in window" this will run game in full screen instead of adjusting resolution.

see post of dxwnd to see how.

Hi All,

So I've been slowly filling the hall of fame with my own scores, and ended up knocking my Klingon game off the bottom, so I decided to play another game as Klingons, only issue is that every time I click on the "orders" button the game crashes to desktop. Tested all other races, only affects the klingons for some reason. Running from the iso that I got from this site ages ago, v1.02 and xp fix thing. I've tried a new install with the multi installer thing but have to use Dxwnd to get it to run and I like to play in actual fullscreen. Any help would be great =) (Using Win7 btw, and no other issues than the usual occasional crashes)

EDIT: Seems to be just colony ships this is effecting.

The crash log is blank, and I've made no changes or edits.

Could there be any Klingon specific files that are corrupted and need replacing?

Oddly the error is repeating with new installs from both my usual iso and the multi installer. Really rather irritating ¬¬

you are uninstalling before running any installer? fresh install should have no corrupt files.

are you trying to load a saved game? if so save maybe corrupt.

you might try these suggestions

right click trek.exe and run as administrator to allow saving of games.

Some members have also reported if set the compatibility for "Windows 98/Windows ME" it will help.

Just did a brand new fresh install from the multi installer, tried each race for a few turns, as soon as I get to Klingons and try issuing any kind of orders from the menu the game crashes back to desktop. Spent last night trying all the compatibility settings and administrative options. Adding in Wine stops the flickery invisible cursor issue that I was initially thinking I'd have to use dxwnd to solve.

I'm coming to the conclusion that this is going to end up being a GPU issue somehow as I've not played Botf since upgrading to a gtx 980, just weird how it only affects one race.

that was my next question, (if you had updated your graphic driver lately) replace would replace graphic driver.

but, yes a very strange problem. you might also try adding dgvoodoo files (remove wine files first)

I hope we don't have a new video driver problem again.

I recently downloaded the Joker patch for BOTF and found that it removed most of the glitches (including the lack of the intro video, no Cardassian Cloak, etc), but it brought a new problem of its own. The game seems to slow down and crash a lot more during battles. Additionally, the 'birds eye' view that I enjoyed before is gone. I'm not sure what version is the default or 'correct' view, but it seems to be tied with the crashes.

This works better, no crashes for the klingon order menus but serious unhappyness with alt-tabbing. I'm gonna mess around with the options and see what I can do.

post your dgVoodoo.conf if you have any luck.

you are not the first to complain about this, I have never noticed any change myself though.

I would suggest using the multi installer, but it also uses joker's patch.

as for crashes, is there any crash logs?

not sure if this is same type of crash you are experiencing, but some models if viewed from a certain angle will cause a crash on newer OS's. but has never been explained why it does this.

if combat is main problem you could request mpr++

I have considered downloading multi-installer before. That will first mean uninstalling my CD intall version first though right?

And yes there's logs, but I'm not sure what to make of them.

Hey thunderchero, thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately my license for VMWare expired upon updating versions and I haven't paid to renew it yet.

That being said, I did find the following thread regarding how to play BotF on a Mac if anyone else is looking for that:
