I have a couple questions

with multi installer installed.

1. you should have 2 files in install folder. (these are backup files for mod installation)

English.res
German.res

what is the size in bytes of each file? this will let me know if command prompts/installer ran properly.

2. look at windows event viewer and provide log it will look something like this;

Faulting application name: trek.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x37965563
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18247, time stamp: 0x521ea91c
Exception code: 0xc0000008
Fault offset: 0x00081f84
Faulting process id: 0x900
Faulting application start time: 0x01cf5dd84e4af590
Faulting application path: C:\botf\UDML\trek.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll

good, it looks like installer ran properly. it sounds like you have a conflict sound or video

open stbof.ini and edit line "MOVIEON=ON -> MOVIEON=OFF"

you can also try "SOUNDON=ON -> SOUNDON=OFF" but try one at a time

and retest if fail recheck event viewer. "Faulting module path: unknown" this is strange it should have listed proper fault module "it would have helped".

Just tried it with Movie=OFF and it worked straight away, thank you so much. :grin:

Now I can try a few mods.

did videos work on CD install?

if so delete "iccvid.dll" from install folder. this will have to be done on all mod installs (or remove this file from English.res and german.res)

glad it works now but still strange.

Now that you mention it there where no videos on the CD install either.

Its the same with all the mods as soon as I turn the videos off they work.

Very strange. Thanks again :grin:

you might be able to install a "codec pack" to resolve the problem.

Quick update on my problems.

I kept getting random crashes when playing normally when sounds where played. I tried everything I could think of to sort the problem including changing all settings on my computer, adding codecs, updating all drivers or changing drivers. Nothing worked to fix the game.

I started to encounter problems with other games and programs so I ended up re installing windows and to my surprise the game works fine now and even plays videos. It hasn't crashed for 400 turns now.

yeah I would have started to wonder when happening on other games and programs? but sometimes drastic measures are needed. :wink:

Hello everyone.

Since now i have used the original german CD-Version with the offical german 1.02 patch in Win98 compatibility mode. This worked without major problem until now. My cursor started vanishing as soon as i moved it over icons like "start game".

After that i read here and tried the multi installer with software mode and several Win-modes. The mouse is still vanishing.

The only thing i could not try are "turning off morphological filtering and crossfire". How and where can i do this?

My system: Win7 64 bit, i7 3,4 GHz, 4GB RAM, Geforce GTS 450

I dont think morphological filtering is going to bring back that cursor. Try compatibility mode with Windows 98 through XP, but I also doubt that is going to work either. Personally I think the issue will go away on its own because BotF is weird. You can also give MPR++ a try, alot of people's issue clear right up after MPR++, but others such as myself have encountered such bugs or incompatibility that I cannot play using it. Below you will find a screenshot of where your Morphological Filter should be:

It does, however sound like you still have 3D= set to something other than SOFTWARE (caps DO matter, if all lowercase it will revert back to 3D=DIRECT3D or 3D=3DFX).. I did encounter this problem as well with Vanilla and modded versions of BotF. Good luck.

Edit: Also if you are using any mod, the stbof.ini 3D= setting MUST be changed per mod, changing a single stbof.ini for say, Vanilla BotF will not change the stbof.ini file for UDM for example. You have to edit the UDM stbof.ini 3D= setting. Hope this helps.

i do not use any mods. I checked the stbof.ini and tried several settings to optimize it including direct3d and software. Yes it is "SOFTWARE" in capital letters. 3DFX is what i can still try. I'll report back.

Thanks for the screen, but i do not have an AMD-core (system specs in the post above), so i do not use catalyst i think.

i will try 3DFX now and see whats happening. i think its somehow a graphic related problem...

Edit:
Nothing happend trying 3DFX.

But i did a mistake. Mostly the cursor vanishes on normal screen and comes back over "start new game". Ingame its vanishing a soon as i try to give orders to a ship or is generally flickering.

Hello all;

I have been troubleshooting why it is that when I launch botf I see the video but if I wait or press escape my screen goes black and I only see buttons when I mouse over them. The buttons also flicker as does other things like the map and text when I mouse over them. Also my cursor leaves a trail behind itself. I have installed botf using the multi-mod installer. I have Windows 7 home premium, wit GeForce GTX 765M GPU, Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz.
I have tried the compatibility settings of XP service pack 3 and windows ME, but still the problem persists. If you guys need any additional information then I can provide it and I am writing to you to ask about how to solve this issue.
