I've recently been trying to install BOTF on windows xp. I've tried vanilla, with the xp patch, joker's patch and even installing it on a vitural drive all with the same result. My screen goes black for a few seconds and the it crashes.
I'm not sure if there's anything left to try. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate the help.

I tried both of those downloads to no avail. I was able to get them to load on an older system so I'm thinking it's a graphics card issue.
Thanks any way Thunderchero. I appreciate the effort.

If you are using Vista or later try to run in compatibility mode for XP SP2 or 3, if in XP try compatability with Win 98 hope it helps

you can try to disable movies.

open stbof.ini and change MOVIEON=ON

Also make sure your video card drivers is up to date

TurboC wrote:I had BotF working pretty well (XP Pro SP3). I had used some solution I found elsewhere on the web (not sure where) to get it working in XP, but it was pretty stable most of the time. Then I had to reformat my hard drive for various reasons. Fresh install of windows, applied all patches. Reinstalled BotF 1.0 from CD, installed fine after some fiddling with task manager. I tried Joker's 1.02 patch onto the 1.0 (hopefully I don't need to use the official 1.02 first?) Installed fine. However, the game seems a lot crashier than my old install. I've crashed 6 times so far in 200 turns. Usually I will do some action, the game freezes and keeps looping about a second of sound over and over. Every time I have to ctrl-alt-del for task manager, then end task and lose my progress. I save often but sometimes it happens on the save screen. I thought Joker's patch was supposed to fix "everything"? Do you vanilla players still crash like this? Any fixes?
A bit old, but I have the same problem. It tends to happen during fights involving Outposts, if that's relevant. Tends to be when the torpedoes from the Outpost strike the target.

Soundproblem mit Star Trek Botf

Post by ironwulf »

Hi All

Mein System: XP Home SP 3, Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy.

Antworten bitte in Deutsch.

Betriebssystem: Win XP Home Servicepack 3.
