Hi all, firstly thankyou for all the hard work you have done, to be able to play botf on my new laptop without the damn mouse lag is awesome, and would not be possible without you. Thankyou.
I am having a little issue with the game crashing. I have read this thread and cannot see what's wrong. There maybe no solution but no harm in me asking right??
i recently installed the 1.0.2 multi mod installer thingy, and played a great game as the fed. The only crashes happened when a massive fleet of mine took on a massive fleet of ferengi, and that has happened since i first bought the game about 14/15 years ago.
i then decided to download the all the ages mod, i used to love playing that. I followed the installation guide, and i also renamed the trek exe file to original.exe so it didn't get overridden, and i put the 3 files needed to get rid if mouse lag into the all the ages folder.
i started a game as Klingons on the standard map size, however when i play the game crashes at completely random times, and quite often. Sometimes in the middle of a turn. What has my windows 8 illiterate ass done wrong, if anything??? Is there any solution??? Thanks in advance.

not sure what "guide" you are referring to. if you used AAM multi installer you should have only needed to add the 3 wine files. no renaming is required.chestermike wrote:i then decided to download the all the ages mod, i used to love playing that. but, AAM did have some random errors, but thought they were not as bad as you described.

Thanks thunderchero. I just meant i downloaded the multiinstaller first. Game seems to have settled down now. No crashes for ages. Dunno what was causing it early on. Could it be lots of encounters with the tholians, since they weren't in the original game? Crashes have finished since i conquered them.

Has anyone had issues getting this to load once the wine files are installed? I tried this every different variation under the sun and no matter what I try I can't get the game to load. The game appears in the taskbar but I can't get it to come up and it appears to lock everything except the taskbar area. I can't even force close the game, I have to restart the computer to get it to go away. I tried Vanilla, Ultimate dominion mod ( this did work once in the regular , but not large galaxy version). Tried compatibility and no compatibility, software and D3D.
Should also mention I read about the long load times, but the way I read it this was largely limited to AMD CPU's ? I am on Intel so that shouldn't be an issue?

exact cause of long load time using wine files was never determined.MogRules wrote:Should also mention I read about the long load times, but the way I read it this was largely limited to AMD CPU's ? I am on Intel so that shouldn't be an issue?

Hello friends
I downloaded the .dll and BOTF has been running sweet on my 8.1 PC for months .... until today. I suspect an 8.1 update today must have stuffed it some how!
Now when I start the game nothing happens it just doesn't load. The little load circle revolves a couple of times then nothing
Any ideas?
Kind regards
Haemorr

you have a couple option (see first post)
dxwnd this is a windowing program but can also run games in full screen
dgvoodoo2 similar to wine files but use an exe to create config file
mpr++ this is a graphic engine replacement for botf

Firstly I am so happy that I'm not the only BOTF junkie left on the planet!
THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!!
UPDATE
Originally i used my actual original game CD and wine ... but this time i used the multi-installer and it just worked fine by itself! But I would be happy to be a tester for the mpr++ if you still want people.

Just found out about mpr++ and it looks wonderful!
