Re: Windows 8 COMPLETE FIX - Vanilla Game

Post by Nemo1701 »

Well, it's a bit late for April fools so i'll give it a try as soon as i get home.
thanks!
I can assure you its not a april fools gag, just a was bad day to sign up to the forum lol
Does this also work with mods or just with plain vanilla game?
To be honest I am not too sure, I don't use any in game mods. The version of the game I use is straight off the original cd, something like v1.0 or v1.1, everything seems to work well apart from the intro video, if anyone as a fix for the video that be great.

Been playing for about 200 turns now and everything going good :D

Edit: Just a quick update when starting the game if the icon shows on the task bar but the game is slow to load, left click your mouse once and that seems to get it full screen.

Hi Nemo1701,

I just gave it a try on my system, no luck for me. is your windows 8 32 bit? mine is 64 bit :???:

for your video problem you should just need to add to your botf folder.

Hi thunderchero
My system is windows 8 64bit, did you add all three files into the main folder, do you have any mods installed? My version of botf is 1.1, but upgraded to 1.2 just now and still fine.

What happens when you try to play the game, crash, error message, or just nothing?

I get icon in taskbar, I can not see mouse location. if I press start key mouse comes back in taskbar area. I open task manager and says BOTF is not responding. I have installed vanilla cd install with no other mods installed and game runs as long as those 3 files are not in folder.

I have deleted and reinstalled botf to make sure it was not just a fluke, and again everything is working great with the three files.

When installing I told the installer both times to not install directx 6, which is mentioned in the ini file.

Stbof.ini line "(DIRECT X NOT INSTALLED BY BOF)"

Left click your mouse a few times while its not visible, to force it to come into focus so it goes full screen, don't press the windows key or it will crash.

Made a video of it starting up, the screen capture software i was using (camtasia) is not correctly displaying the screen scaling up to 1440x900, but from my point of view it was full screen with no flashing.

Video link now down

Here is a mp4 of it starting, its on a temp link on mega so tell me if it goes down.

ALSO: Dont click the icon on the taskbar click in open space, see where i clicked in the video.

Looks like that, just as with your fix TC; but then Nemo said on his screen it was full screen; what we see in the video clip might be just the screen capture version of that.
I'll test this as soon as i get home, to confirm yours or Nemo's claim.
