Hi Everyone,

After finding DxWnd I contacted the new developer and he made a few changes and now works on windows 8

Latest Build can be found here
https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/files/

Windows 8
no mouse lag in windowed mode. (resized window or full screen mouse lag returns)
all other Windows OS's
no restrctions

use default setting plus set
"name" (BOTF)
"path" (C:\botf\trek.exe)
"launch" (C:\botf\trek.exe)
video (tab) - color management (section) enable set 16 BPP RGB565 encoding
input (tab) - Curor handling (section) enable hide cusor
directx (tab) - emulation (section) enable primary buffer
directx (tab) - directdraw surface handling (section) enable compensate flip emulation
if using 1024 or 1366 patches you need to change resolution on main (tab)

check it out and post your result

Thanks "gho" for all your support

Btw, to use on warzone or game ranger.

just open the DxWnd window before launching and warzone/game ranger will start in windowed mode. have not tested stability.

Hi there, I play BOTF for years now. any problems with win 7 or 8 I watched as a guest here but now, as a member, I really gotta tell you that although I follow the latest instructions for win 8 my botf version doesnt run properly. Using the clean installation from armadafleet.com (BOTF german/English 1.0.2) or even a mod (AFC 1.2) did not work. Also I tried to install one version of BOTF in the x-32 or x-64 folder, nothin happened. Mouse still lags. I also tried the hex changing thing but I couldn´t find the 0x001127F3 slot with the hex editor anyway. Really confusing. Nevertheless I don´t give up and ask you instead what might be the problem

windows 8/8.1 only has 2 real fixes for mouse lag

1. use DxWnd viewtopic.php?f=3&p=42340#p42340

2. use MPR++ viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2720

Hey all, just to say that I have played this mod before on my old computer and it was amazing. The UDM3 I am talking about.
But now I have just tried to download and install it again on my new laptop. This is running windows 8.1, 6GB RAM, 64bit OS.

I have successfully downloaded the "Birth of the Federation (full game) Multi installer Must have for new mods" and the "Mod Multi Ultimate Dominion Mod 3.0.1dda" but when I try to open them this Error message pops up....

The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

Earlier on today when I downloaded and installed them and tried to launch them, a message telling me to download "Directplay" came up which I did. Since then nothing has worked and when I deleted everything and tried again, the above Error message stated coming up when I try to install both mods.

if it says it is corrupt, it more than likely is. re-download file

this message is normal on windows 8/8.1 if you have not installed any games that uses directplay before.

now windows 8/8.1 does not like botf at all see first post. you will need to use

DxWnd
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3179&p=43105#p43105

or

MPR++
viewtopic.php?f=134&t=2720

Wow, thanks for such a quick reply. I did not expect that.
I did re-download them both, at least 5 times each. And still that same error.
Seeing as though that was the problem, I did not read further into the windows 8 install procedures because wanted to get over this hurdle first.
Used the links for the mods on this website and still the same error messages.

I suggest internet explorer to prevent corrupt downloads, I have tested files many time and they have never been corrupt, but will test now.

when are you getting this message? as soon as you start installer or as file is unzipping?

any way I just finished downloading (botf and UDM) and tested and files are good so it is a connection problem on your end.

only other thing I can suggest is to use firefox but also install "downloadthemall" plugin, it has an md5 checker and will replace bad /corrupted packets

Finally figured it out, you made me think about what might be causing it on my end and I turned Avast off for a while and they downloaded and installed fine. Now to just figure out the rest.

Cheers again.

Not sure if this has been posted. Using the Multi installer I have a lag free crash free game adding these 3 files to whatever (every) version You are using no file modding or anything. Credits in file (wasnt me) http://www.atrubrew.com/Win8fix.zip.

Running in Win Compatability mode: WinXP service pack 2, reduced color, 640x480 screen res, as admin

Hope this helps someone

Btw if Admins don't have this uploaded somewhere and can verify its a fix (of some sort) can You please do so, I dont really wanna host this.

this is listed as option 3 on first post
thunderchero wrote:option 3

this uses "wine" files to start BOTF using OpenGL instead of directdraw. This works well with intel based Processors but take a long time to load on AMD Processors (up to 8 min+)
