Hi Everyone,

well I bite the bullet and updated my backup system from windows 8.1 to windows 10

on fresh install of window 10 they are missing some of the older directX files so you need to install this
DirectX 9 redist

this is directx 9 redist package this will not change your current version of directX but update any missing files for direct play that directx 10/11 no longer supports.

Installation
multi installer/mods
installer run properly (may even install a little quicker?) but the start menu changes will not create sub folders for mods
more info on muti installer mod check this topic
Tutorial: How to Download & install BotF & Mods

Game Play
vanilla install
so far I am still experiencing the same mouse lag (maybe a little worse) as on 8.1 (expected)

MPR++
looks to work properly so far.
more info on MPR++ check this topic
MPR++ v0.2.6c open for alpha testing

DxWnd
looks to work properly so far.
more info on DxWnd see this topic
Windowed Mode/no mouse lag in windows 8/10

wine files
are not working properly and still has mouse lag as if files were not present.
more info on Wine files see this topic
Windows 8 COMPLETE FIX - Vanilla Game

dgvoodoo2 files
helps greatly with mouse lag.
more info on dgvoodoo2 files see this topic
dgvoodoo2 files suggested by evmiller

video driver/software note
you might need to setup a profile within your video settings for each install of botf (Nvidia contol panel or Catalyst Control Center), BOTF needs lower settings than default in some cases.

if anyone reports differently this post will be updated.

Hey,

I am not at all technical and I'm really grateful for you putting this awesome game online which I haven't played for years.

However, I am finding incredible mouse lag and using the arrow keys to navigate around the map is also very slow.

Is there anything I can do to improve this?

I'm running on Windows 10 and would appreciate any advise/support.

Thanks!

Hello everyone, Just created an account to give you all an update here. Installed Botf on Windows 10 and I got the mouse lag issue others are having. Dropping in dgVooddoo2 seems to fix the issue. I'm sure some of you are familiar with it. It's a dll wrapper similar to the wine wrappers and products like nGlide and so forth. I usually only use it for video related issues but I've had great luck with it fixing all sorts of my older games recently I thought I'd give it a try.

you can get dgvoodoo2 at

http://dege.freeweb.hu/

just drop in ...

D3DImm.dll
DDraw.dll
dgVoodooSetup.exe (You might need this to turn off the watermark, otherwise I left everything at default)

And you should be good to go.

Please report back if this works for anyone else having the issue.

worked very well for mouse lag, but I experienced mouse disappearing some times mainly on quick movements.

thanks for info evmiller.

as for files needed once you create the "dgVoodoo.conf" file using the dgVoodooSetup.exe. You could then just copy these 3 files to mods.
D3DImm.dll
DDraw.dll
dgVoodoo.conf

info added to first post here and on windows 8 support topic.

Note on installers

the start menu changes will not create sub folders for mods

when using Classic Shell it has no problem

Greetings fellow BOTF brothers and sisters,

The game is already installed on my Windows 7. I have my Win10 Upgrade waiting for me to install. I made testing with other games and they all worked after gaming laptop upgrade. I had no botf install on that machine. My botf is installed on my desktop gaming and streaming PC. Does the game work after free Win10 upgrade? OR shall I still wait before installing Windows 10 free upgrade?

Thank you

did you read first post?
FrankieDooSpace wrote:Does the game work after free Win10 upgrade?
it runs the same as windows 8/8.1 (horrible mouse lag)

But will run properly with help, mpr++ or dxwnd, or wine files or dgvoodoo2 files (most systems)

Yes, I read.

I never had Win8 or 8.1. When, I heard about that new Windows, I freaked out and bought a NEW computer wih Win7 on it. Now, freaked out again and bought 2 NEW computers.

I don't understand what the second part with [...] but will run properly with help, mpr++ or dxwnd, or wine files or dgvoodoo2 files (most systems) What does that mean?

I think, I'm going to wait.

these are programs that help botf run properly on windows 8/10

without using these programs botf will run but with bad mouse lag.

Well BOTF was working when I was running 10 after an upgrade from 8.1 but I did a clean install of 10 today and it went right out the window :S

It lets me into game but as soon as I try to enter combat or look at the ships in the research screen it crashes so presumably a rendering issue. Tried Vanilla and UDM so far and both are causing this. This is while using mpr++ for the lag fix.

EDIT: Just tried the voodoo fix above and that seems to get it running again :)
EDIT: Jumped to conclusions, still crashing haha....oh well.

I tried compatability , disabling scaling etc.
