first you need to determine if this is windows 10 issue or mpr++ issue
uninstall mpr++, uninstall botf then delete botf folder (for clean install) do this for mods first then vanilla
go to your video card website to make sure you have full video driver from manufacturer (not windows update, windows update only installs minimum driver)
reinstall botf from multi installer (software mode), then test, you will need to live with mouse lag for this test.
if it crashes than it is a windows 10 error.
note; voodoo, wine files should never be installed with mpr++

I presume were looking at more Windows 10 issues. I have been clean installing all afternoon with every config I can think of and getting mostly the same results. If I run Vanilla and don't use any fixes it will render the ships in the tech screen but after a few turns the game seems to hard lock and I have to restart the system to get it back. Drivers are all up to date, not using the Windows updated ones. I was not installing voodoo + MPR++ , I was trying them separately. The weird part is it was working fine with Windows 8.1 updgraded to 10 so I don't know why this should be any different unless something that came with 8.1 was being carried over into 10 which is possible.thunderchero wrote:first you need to determine if this is windows 10 issue or mpr++ issue

from what I understand about windows 8.1 to windows 10 update, it backup windows folder from windows 8/8.1 and create new windows folder. so nothing should carry over. but I might be wrong.MogRules wrote:The weird part is it was working fine with Windows 8.1 updgraded to 10 so I don't know why this should be any different unless something that came with 8.1 was being carried over into 10 which is possible.
myself all I have done is "update" to windows 10 not full install.
but that said, crashing in tech screen on older OS's was due to video driver related using direct3d.
crashing in combat, had many reasons.
I am guessing no crash logs
as far as if it is an mpr++ issue on windows 10, since Flocke currently has no free time, I doubt if it will be fixed any time soon.
you could download and install
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... px?id=8109
this is directx 9 redist package this will not change your current version of directX but update any missing files for direct play that directx 10/11 no longer supports.
windows 10 might be missing some of these files

Re-installed Direct X 9 and that seems to be doing the trick. Thank you sir! I wouldn't have thought to re-install that particular option. I will play some games tomorrow and see if it holds up
Thanks again.
EDIT: Seems to be good, thank again.

Hi all, new to the forum as of today. I've been playing BOTF since it was released, on and off and I always go back to it. However, I updated to Windows 10 today from Windows 7 and I don't have mouse lag, it's just painfully slow when trying to use the arrow keys to navigate the map. I've tried various fixes already posted on here to no avail. Any suggestions?
I was surprised to note this is also a very active forum so pleased to see people still playing this great game. I also noticed there are mods and something called MPR? Can someone point me to one of the many posts on these subjects as I'd like to know more without reading through countless forum posts?!
Thanks

I'm not particularly technical so not sure how to use this. What do you mean by 'just drop in' exactly?evmiller wrote:Hello everyone, Just created an account to give you all an update here. Installed Botf on Windows 10 and I got the mouse lag issue others are having. Dropping in dgVooddoo2 seems to fix the issue. I'm sure some of you are familiar with it. It's a dll wrapper similar to the wine wrappers and products like nGlide and so forth. I usually only use it for video related issues but I've had great luck with it fixing all sorts of my older games recently I thought I'd give it a try.
you can get dgvoodoo2 at
http://dege.freeweb.hu/
just drop in ...
D3DImm.dll
DDraw.dll
dgVoodooSetup.exe (You might need this to turn off the watermark, otherwise I left everything at default)
And you should be good to go.
Please report back if this works for anyone else having the issue.
Thanks

I dropped the 3 files above into my "botf" folder, but when I go to open the game, my screen begins alternating between solid white, green red, and black screens. I can hear the intro music in the background though.aggybooya wrote:I'm not particularly technical so not sure how to use this. I'm sure I did it wrong, but do any of you know what it is?

did you run the dgVoodooSetup.exe and configure to correct install location?valarmoghulis wrote:I'm sure I did it wrong, but do any of you know what it is?
dgvoodoo is the least stable of the 4 option on first post.

I did run the .exe, but I don't know if I configured correctly or not. I just used the default settings when the configure menu opened, because I wasn't sure what settings to use. I did read the "readme" file, but I didn't understand most of what he was saying. I'm not computer saavy by any means.

Oh wait, I just re-read what you said. I believe I did configure to the right location, because when I opened the "botf" folder the config file was in there. I just don't know if I ran the setup process correctly.

dgvoodoo might not be compatible with your video driver.
