The versions with the MPR++ upgrades seem to work fine. The other ones (Galaxies, UnCivil War 2.0, All Ages) the resolution seems to be messed up. In 800 x 600 (Galaxies) & 1024 x 768 it shifts the games to the right of the screen & magnifies them. Is this the result of any of the loading issues (voodoo or direct X) ?

mpr++ does not cover these mods, so for those you would need to use dxwnd.

Thank you for this post.

I have Windows 10 and was having a lot of problems. I installed the normal patch and then then Windows XP fix patch. I had the horrible mouse lag and it was miserable to play. I tried to use the dgvoodoo2 fix (took a while to find instructions on what actually to do) but that did not help. Finally the "wine files" worked perfectly. I would like to say that this completely resolved my Windows 10 mouse lag problems. I have an NVidia 970 video card if that helps.

Now I am starting to get random crashing though. I played a few hundred turns without a single problem, then started a new game to 90 turns with no issues. Then the next games I have been trying to play have just totally been crashing all the time.

Thank you very kindly for having this website for people like myself looking to play again! :)

as for files needed once you create the "dgVoodoo.conf" file using the dgVoodooSetup.exe. You could then just copy these 3 files to mods.
D3DImm.dll
DDraw.dll
dgVoodoo.conf

How do you create the dgvoodoo.conf file?

Sorry i am new to this

Hi Guys. Thank you for your dedicated work on this game. So very nice to see a modding community so passionate about their game. I wanted to ask has anyone found a workaround for the sound loss. I upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 and was unable to run the game. I reinstalled vanilla game with the dxwnd and voodo file and I got fullscreen resolution but I have lost audio. Has any one found this and if so how did you fix it?

Thank you in advance

the 2 programs should not be used together.

I think dxwnd runs best. but to get fullscreen using dxwnd you only need to modify 1 setting by unchecking "run in window" (each installed version).

you can try a couple things,
1) install a multipurpose codec pack
2) replace mss32.dll in the install path from post below. (file would need to be replaced in each install path)

if you did not already figure it out you need to copy dgVoodooSetup.exe to install path and run it to configure settings.
when dgVoodooSetup.exe is closed it will create the dgVoodoo.conf in install path.

I can't offer any solutions but I can report that after installing BOTF on a windows 10 machine the Vanilla game ran for 100-ish turns.

As I was playing the sound disappeared and the first time I tried to enter combat the game crashed.

After that the game would not play at all.

Hey all, first off I just wanted to say that I am really surprised I have not discovered this game until now. I am a huge Star Trek fan and feel like the universe makes perferct for a 4x type game. Anyway, I want to learn how to play this game but the issue I am having is anytime I try loading one of the tutorial file the game crashes. I am running Windows 10 pro 64 bit. I am not sure if I am missing a step, anyway please let me know if there are any solutions to this and thank you all for modding and keep this great game going!

few questions
1. windows 10? if so you will need to use dxwnd or mpr++ to prevent mouse lag.
2. did you set the trek.exe to run as admin?
3. did you try to run a normal game? if so what was result same ctd?

note; tutorial saves don't help much, you really need to play a game.

hi I have downloaded this awesome game + mods to my older laptop which has windows 8 with no issues but am unable to get it to my main laptop which is windows 10
I have followed all the instructions but it doesn't seem to work is it because I have an AMD processor as I have heard that can cause issues
any help would be appreciated

let us know what you have tried.

here is a possible solutions

1. if you are using dxwnd be sure to have all comparability turned off on trek.exe's, but dxwnd exe set to run as admin.

I have tried that as well as launching using older windows (going back to xp) the times I have managed to get the game working it has lasted 5 minutes before crashing
as I have had trouble with other older games and mods I was advised by other forums it was the processor causing the issue
I am a massive star trek fan and this game doesn't play well on my older laptop due to its age (not the game the laptop lol)
I have also got armarda 2 working on my main laptop but not the mods could it be a related issue

more details please (step by step what you have tried)

next thing I would suggest is directX redist package

on fresh install of window 10 they are missing some of the older directX files so you need to install this
DirectX 9 redist

Hello. I have tried the Vodoo solution as it's the only one that kinda work for me. The problem is however that if I try to run Botf in Win 98/Me compatibility mode then Botf Instantly crashes when entering main menu. But otherwise I experience freezes, where the game locks up, and the sound keep repeating and the only way out of this is to restart the entire computer. Any ideas on how to solve this?
