Re: Windows 10 problems/solutions please post them here
I just started playing the Ultimate Dominion Mod. I have to use DxWnd to play it. It works fine. However, each time I play, the game or DxWnd rearranges my desktop icons. How can I prevent this? Autoarrange is turned off in Windows 10.

I have experienced this before also, but no idea how or why it stopped. also mostly happened when I had CTD (game did not close normally)Section31 wrote:I just started playing the Ultimate Dominion Mod. question does this happen without dxwnd? does this happen on vanilla or other mods?
But I fear this might be system setting related.

I can't start the UDM without DxWnd. I have not tried any other mod or vanilla with this computer.

it should start just have bad mouse lag. if it doesn't it make me think system/driver related or you may need to install directX redist.Section31 wrote:I can't start the UDM without DxWnd.
DirectX 9 redist
but since windows 10 minimum res is 1024 x 768 it might help to use the UDM 1024 patch.
Re: Windows 10 problems/solutions please post them here
Where should I place the extracted DirectX 9 files?
Also, can I install different Mods and play them without uninstalling UDM?

any where would work, after extracting files open folder and run the DXSETUP.exeSection31 wrote:Where should I place the extracted DirectX 9 files?
yes, this is the main idea behind the Multi installer.Section31 wrote:Also, can I install different Mods and play them without uninstalling UDM?

I'm trying to install this on a new win 10 comp. while running the installers (4 so far) I'm getting
"movefile failed, code 32
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" error on nearly every file in the install.
It gives abort, retry, ignore buttons. If I click retry on every file it works. This is making the install take several hours each. Please does anyone know how to resolve this?

1. re-download installerLassidor wrote:I'm trying to install this on a new win 10 comp. while running the installers (4 so far) I'm getting

2. run installer as administrator.

bummer running as admin didn't change anything:( any other ideas?
Re: Windows 10 problems/solutions please post them here
on a whim I ran the installer under win 8 compatibility mode and ran perfect.

first time I have heard of this message, so it might not be so easyLassidor wrote:bummer running as admin didn't change anything:( any other ideas?
more info please.
what exactly are you installing? (exact file name)
when exactly are you getting this message (take a screenshot when error happens)
interesting since win 8 and win 10 are basically the same.Lassidor wrote:on a whim I ran the installer under win 8 compatibility mode and ran perfect.

Re: Windows 10 problems/solutions please post them here
Hi,
Windows 10. I have the latest install of the vanilla BOTF/DXWnd. It launches fine now after applying the compatibility changes to DXWnd previously suggested ("Set single core process affinity", "Limit available resources", "Fix buffered IO after Win98").
However, in windowed mode I'm getting a very strange anomaly.
The entire screen seems to "ghost" and only updates when I move the cursor over it (kind of the opposite of a cursor trail).
I have NVIDIA GeForce 840M, but I have tried running trek.exe with the integrated Intel card and it has the same problem.
Any ideas? I don't have the problem in full-screen, only in windowed, so I feel like there should be some setting or two I can tweak in DXWnd that might fix it.

I get exact same issue on my laptop, but the reason for this is your max display resolution is same size as game so there is no room for window box.biabia22030 wrote:However, in windowed mode I'm getting a very strange anomaly.
example my laptop max resolution 1366 x 768 so if I use 1024 or 1366 x 768 version in window mode the window it is trying to create is larger than 768 height.
you have 2 options
1. use full screen version
2. edit size on main page of settings to height to 750 px this will skew game sightly.
note; on my desktop with 1920 x 1080 monitor does not support 1366 x 768 so when using full screen version it will have window of 1920 x 1080 with game in upper left corner 1366 x 768 and rest of screen black.
but this issue happens with or without Dxwnd.

I did find a second option to run in window mode when game resolution is the same as max display resolution without skewing game or editing game size.biabia22030 wrote:However, in windowed mode I'm getting a very strange anomaly.
In setting modify/video set the "Modal style" flag this should remove the window boarder and top bar.
