Hi Everyone,

Here is new release of Multi installer

BOTF English German

to install;
you only need to uninstall vanilla version (no need to uninstall mods)
download new version
run installer
on "additional tasks" page of installer select option you want installed allow installer to finish (do not close and command prompts during install)

Note; this will not change or effect any mod installed or installed in the future.

multi installer should not be installed to 2 different locations at the same time. the second install would overwrite first registry settings.

make sure all compatibility setting are unchecked on trek.exe (vanilla or mods) if using DxWnd, but while the DxWnd.exe should be ran as administrator only.

optional changes/improvements to vanilla install only.
remove hades files (setting of stbof.ini to 3D=DIRECT3D still possible)
restored 512 x 512 original textures
retreat/evade crash fix to hobs option during install of vanilla playable version (mod will require manual patching see link for available patches)
1024 x 768 GUI patch (optional) (mod will still require manual patching)
DxWnd files added to install path and shortcuts (optional)
gui errors patches;
Fed redeploy screen error (fix)
Intel Empire screen - dilth/total systems (fix)
Cardassian Intel/Research display (fix)
Star-names display (fix)
Romulan buy button fix (fix)
Cardassian territory-pic bug (fix) By: Joker

Hi Everyone,

I have been working on updated version of Multi installer. all tests so far have been very promising.
I feel this is the most stable version in many years with the addition of DxWnd and hob fix! so try the original version again.

Hi thunder, I wiped my install of BOTF clean to install this, but found that launching DXWnd windowed for vanilla BOTF just does not launch the game at all. No pop-ups, no taskbar notifications...any idea what is wrong? I installed with all options selected (running Windows 10 laptop with switchable graphics).

is there a green dot next to birth of the federation in list of DxWnd? if not the install path may need to be edited.

right click on "birth of the federation" and select modify on main tab you can adjust path.

if this is problem what is your install location installer should be adjusting location.

also did you try to start game without dxwnd?

Thanks for the quick reply, thunder. I can confirm that there is a green dot next to BOTF in DXWnd, and I've confirmed that it is pointing to the BOTF trek.exe file correctly.

I have also tried launching the game without DXWnd, but it does the same as DXWnd - nothing.

For both scenarios (with and without DXWnd) after attempting to launch BOTF, the mouse pointer turns into the circular loading icon for a while and then stops with nothing else happening.

Previous 1.0.2 works fine with DXWnd.

can you look at botf folder does it look like all the files are there? around 47 files plus english folder (if english install) and dxwnd folders
what OS?

I'm running Windows 10 Pro, thus the need for DXWnd.

I have 50 files in my BOTF folder (using English install). Please see attached image.

looks like files are all there.

stbof.res 93.1 mb?

does crash log have any info?
DxWnd you use fullscreen or windowed?

could I have a little info on system
desktop, laptop?
screen current resolution?
video card info?

have you tried re-installing?

Hi TC and Sea-Bee,

My vanilla installation won't start at all too. No clean install though. I just deleted and tried to reinstall the multi installer (multiple times) as the first post in this thread said that there is no need to uninstall mods. My folder contains 47 files plus GERMAN and DXWnd folders. Mods are all working. Only Vanilla won't start. Paths are correct and there is a green dot besides BotF in dxwnd. Maybe this crash log is helpful?

yes it is helpful
check if stbof.res is protected or read only

I just checked and it isn't protected.

the reason I asked on my windows 7 system it has a lock in icon for stbof.res I have never noticed this before. but game runs for me.

try to run trek.exe as admin?

tried but unfortunately it had no effect. game still won't start.

unzip and try thie exe

edit; should have explained the change, new installer is using QD no-cd patch, the exe above is default install options 1024 german but with original no-cd change.
