Multi monitor issue (solved)

Post by captaindusk »

NOTE; Topic split from "All in one beta" topic since it was unrelated issue of installer.

Downloaded and installed the Installer today. This is what it comes up with when I attempt to start any mod:

Therefore for me it is not useable.

from image it looks like your system has a max res of 1366 x 768 and you installed 1920 x 1080? but the image size is less than 1920 x 1080 (1915 x 1070). so I know this is not issue.

did that image take up fullscreen or was it in upper left corner?

would need more info on what you installed and options selected and max res of monitor/video card.

were you only testing 1920 x 1080? or did this happen on lower res options?

What I really don't understand is how a 1920 x 1080 image got increased.

from what I can see of image that is approx 1280 x 720 of the 1920 x 1080 image but that section was stretched to almost 1920 x 1080. And the installer has no ability to stretch any images. My first thought would be so setting in video card causing this issue.

It took up fullscreen. Installed all mods with 1920x1080. I left all checkboxes as they were set by default. I use a multi monitor set up.

Screen 1 is a Benq EL2870U (28") with a max resolution of 3840x2160. This is also the resolution my system is using and the screen I wanted to run BotF on.
Screen 2 is a Benq G2420HD (24") with a max. resolution of 1920x1080.

I have tested all resolutions that the multi installer offers and the problem appears regardless of what resolution I try to use.

Graphics card is a MSI Radeon R9 390 with latest Adrenalin 20.3.1 driver installed.

Ok try this,

open your radeon software window
select gaming tab
select "add a game"
browse for the trek.exe you want to test
after that you should have entry in gaming tab for that version.
start game as normal though desktop shortcut or "programs" shortcut so game will start using dxwnd
once game starts press alt + R so radeon panel will display on left side of window.
after this it is up to you to configure app to use only Benq EL2870U (28") monitor.

since I don't have dual monitors I can not instruct you on how to do this.

from image I am presuming game is trying to display on both monitors. but game can not do this.

I hope while you adjust settings in radeon control panel you will be able to see changes?

let me know how it goes

OK so I tried doing what you suggested. Fiddling with the radeon settings with both monitors did not help. I didn't see any changes so I disabled 2nd monitor in windows settings. As soon as I do this Botf is starting fine, so issue is definately occurring due to the the multi monitor setup.

Maybe it has something to do with monitors running at different resolutions?

Strange, i reactivated second monitor and tried to start Botf again, this is what I got: left image is 4k main monitor, right is second 1080p monitor

So issue seems to have fixed itself

ok try this,

open dxwnd icon select the icon of the mod you want to test and right click on icon
in drop down window select modify
on main tab at bottom right you will see a dropdown list and text "monitor" select the monitor you want to use.
click "OK" in setting window and close dxwnd window when asked save changes
re-test

works fine, but it doesn't matter if I set monitor 1 or 2 in DxWnd, game always starts on monitor 1.

I have deleted it now. No matter which mod I start they all seem to be working fine now. So thanks for your help and stay safe and healthy.

I have exact same issue on my system using 1366 x 768 in fullscreen, the issue is my system no longer support 1366 x 768.

if you check "list all modes" in display adapter properties it is no longer listed. I am not sure if this is a video driver issue or windows issue.

but 3 months ago it was listed and no older driver will fix my issue.

use this programm to add 1366x768 into the driver - your 16:9 panel should support it
works fine for all my Laptops, and my Desktop ;)
