a peculiar ship upgrade issue.

Hello all, i haev an issue with ship upgrades. by this, i mean. in build list the ships battleship 1, 2 and 3 are displayed. They are all set to upgrade 1 to 2 to 3 but all are displayed. Also, the DO upgrade automatically. I also confirm that they ARE set to upgrade (checked via UE).

When my ship list is listsed (in UE) like this all ships are in the star system build list.

Dreadnaught 1
Dreadnaught 2
Battleship 1
Battleship 2
Battleship 3

When they are listed like this the most advanced ship available is listed.

Dreadnaught 2
Dreadnaught 1
Battleship 3
Battleship 2
Battleship 1

Is this normal? I have tried re-allocating the ship 'upgrade to'. That made no difference. Is there a way to fix this issue or is it one of those things we must all get used to?

These are all my command ships. I have extended my techs to 15. I believe it is stable (or as stable as it can be). Battleships upgrade to battleshpis only. Dreadnaughts upgrade to dreadnaughts only. Adv dreadnaught is completely standalone.

This is my current shiplist for all playable races. The mod i am making is primarily a beginning start, i had hoped that having so many upgrades would assist in making basic T1-3 ships maintain they're usefulness from start to finish whilst offereing a better option for construction.

The large list i posted is the list viewable via UE. i believe at T13 the adv dreadnaught, dreadnaught 2 and battleship 3 are the only command ship available in the ship list.

Its when i switch the order to the following in the UE Shiplist that i get the Whole bunch of ships. Obviously im not too fussed. It was ok before (in the list i posted above). I was just trying to polish things up abit. by having all ships from most advanced to least ship by ship rather than class by class.

The reason your second list order did not work is because the game reads the list from top to bottom.

also their are 2 lists shiplist.sst and shiptech.sst

both of these list are read from top to bottom. so as you pointed out when it reads the list, if Battleship 3 is before Battleship 2 it will not see that it upgrades when adding it to the build list.

This behavior is also why the AI will never build a minor race ship.

example; if the AI agenda says to build a destroyer it will always read the major races destroyer first and build that.
