Shades of grey mod gone 4K now, let's see if I have more patience... GUI will be more sleeker this time, no shadows in the interface for example.

I really hope this site would give a little more room on file size, I mean, these images must be compressed into low grade, not to mention zipped files.

I have wondered, why the game companies do not make remakes of these old games which are actually quite good, many playable games have been forgotten, if not erased completely into history.
Maybe I'm becoming old, but Star Trek: the next generation : a final unity was a good game, and nowadays you'll either have to have a very old computer with DOS, or some extra software (like Dxwnd, or DOSbox) which is made by game enthusiasts (never companies) which allows you to play the game.
BOTF has so many possibilities, which are so clearly seen, I do hope there would be a 64bit version of this game, which would allow more gameroom (larger galaxies, more buildings'n'ships etc), I mean, this game is sooo playable while it has passed away in the eyes of public when newer games have come to take it's place (which are as slow as BOTF was in it's heyday).
Today, if BOTF was modified to 64bit, it would have so much more room for extras, graphics do not have to be so much better, but as I mentioned before, more stuff could be pumped into it in order to make the game even more playable.

I wonder if there will be a memory problem later on when I insert these large images into the game?
The universal 1920 X 1080 uses only one image (hm_scrn.tga) to many screens for example, why?
Was it just easier to do?

unknown, I reused images to keep download size as small as possible.

It's quite funny how small the screen was in the original BOTF compared to today's resolutions.
BTW, as I have found out, the 4K resolution might just be the sensible top resolution of this game, 8K might make it a little bit too difficult to play,
in my game, I have to play on large map in order it to fill the space in the main galactic screen, small map becomes so small, that you have to use it for the stars to be visible if you do not notice them on the screen.
If one has an 8K screen some 40 inches in viewing area, you cannot play the game if you do not have x-ray vision or some other kind of superpower which allows you to discern atoms sized pixels from viewscreen  .

The magnification of the small map 30 X 16 in this mod is 116 pixels per square, I wonder if the star images could be enlargened by some amount of pixels without the game becoming unstable?

if you are talking about the s-*-map.tga and *-map.tga used on main map? I think the size can be edited without any other changes since I believe placement is controlled by upper left corner. as for other system icons for system bonus they may over lap and require spacing code to be found.

Yeah, it's Pioneer Universum Mod these days, it's just an idea I got some years ago, a star trek not born of star trek.
It would have carriers and carrier battlegroups, marines at the center point of the series/movies (obviously this is not going to happen because of the star trek canon), I hoped for stories that go through all the episodes of the series, great stories like the story about the... was it progenitors (in star trek), who existed before (like some millennia ago), who seeded the worlds of this galaxy.
A story which would combine the story of the engineers of prometheus/alien, precursors of star control 2, the original cylon humans of battlestar galactica for example. These precursors would use ufos, I mean flying saucers like in prometheus.
