Transferring save files

Post by Gowron's cousin »

Is it possible to transfer, say, a laptop game save file into my desktop version of the game? I checked this thread but these eyes didn't find the answer.
I started a game while I was "getting educated " in the bathroom and so I want to transfer that save file and use it on my desktop version of the game.

Possible?

Thanks in advance!

yes, as long as both systems have exact same version with exact same options installed.

first saved slot named game0.sav
second saved slot named game1.sav
third saved slot named game2.sav and so on

Yes, same everything. Game0.sav has 97kb but the other saves all register 0. I saved this morning and the date shows the 7th of this month. The last.sav file registers 97kb as well. On my desktop version I saved multiple times so my fear is overwriting the desktop files if I transfer over from my laptop.

Did I confuse you? lol

look at the system you want to trans to, for a saved game with 0 bytes (unused) or one you know is no longer needed.
then re-name the file you are wanting to transfer before overwriting.

Cool, thanks! I didn't know that was possible. I figured the pathing had to be exact.

Just so I don't mess this up: I would rename the laptop save file and then copy/paste that file into my desktop botf directory. Did I get that right?

I forgot to mention: on the laptop version I see auto.sav, game0.sav---------->game11.sav. And then there is a last.sav. I'm confused as to which one it would be.

Sorry for all the ????s

auto.sav = this save is automatically create at the end of turn processing of each turn (if auto sav is turned on)
last.sav = this save is the auto.sav renamed before it is overwritten by turn processing (if auto save is turned on)
game0.sav - game11.sav = these saves are user created saved games though save game screen.

so you could use auto.sav and rename it to game11.sav (if unused) this would be last saved game slot in load game screen.

Does this matter if I am using the Ultimate 5 mod? I followed directions and it only showed up in the vanilla and it started at the beginning not at turn 157. Hmmm...I'll research this further.
