Changing The Color of Weapon Textures

I tried to change the color of weapon textures for the Feds for ECML with MPR++ 2.6c by swapping textures and hob files from UDM III. After saving stbof.res in UE, they're still blue in game. I'd like to change the colors to that like in UDM III because they match the color of TNG/DS9. Sorry, I posted this before knowing there was a guide. I am still a bit confused though. Can I simply use UE to change the colors, or do I have to use a dreaded HEX editor?

with mpr++ the replacement phasers are saved in mpr++\packages\default\res just edit base_phaser.png or the texture coordinate definitions in mpr++\packages\default\phasers.xml or the phaser hob mappings in mpr++\data\mappings\HobMappings.xml
