Now that we know how to make a flying outpost I need some ideas:
Would it be more interesting to have an outpost made with the troop ships or an "outpost/starbase ship" with movement zero?
I noticed that removing agility dont make the flying outpost static in combat screen.
Another thing I noticed is that the flying outpost dont give the range extension an outpost/starbase gives.
Following this idea could I create defense orbitals with a model for use as some kind of system defense force? This way I could have a ton of defense batteries that do an actual fight on screen together with a starbase/outpost and ships. That would be something!
What do you think?

I think that if your flying outpost/starbase ships don't give the range extension, then they are just another powerful but slow ship, like the dreadnoughts in vanilla.
If you use them, then you'll need something that will give the range extension when there isn't a handy planet there to build a shipyard. Otherwise on lower tech levels you'll probably have trouble being trapped in your little corner of the galaxy due to not being able to extend your range to reach that planet just outside your range, or worse, you won't be able to extend your range so your short-ranged but powerful ships can go on the offensive and only your destroyers can reach the enemy's planets to escort the transports.
