4:3 vs widescreen

Post by thunderchero »

Hi everyone

I was playing vanilla widescreen (normal map) and noticed the widescreen was getting more of a turn lag even on normal map. So I started to compare sectors.

normal map 4:3 (large) 25 x 18 = 450 sectors
normal map widescreen (large) 36 x 18 = 648 sectors

to keep turn processing the same it should be;
normal map widescreen (large) 30 x 15 = 450 sectors

now this only make turn processing worse on large maps
example;
large map 4:3 (large) 52 x 39 = 2028 sectors
large map widescreen (large) 77 x 39 = 3003 sectors

to keep turn processing the same it should be;
large map widescreen (large) 62 x 31 = 1922 sectors

here is my suggested map sizes and how they compare

I feel it would be best if sectors is the same or less especially on large maps.

I see no objection to that. If reducing them in size somewhat helps with turn times, I say go for it. Widescreen maps would still be plenty big.
