ECM MPR++ Crash Windows 10

Post by JeanLucPicard1 »

I lost all of my standalone mods for ECM like ECM 3.0. So,I downloaded the All in One installer. I installed ECM in this order as directed by Thunderchero.

1. ECM All in One 1920_1080
2. Applied 1920_1080 large map patch
3. Applied MPR++ 2.6c (normal option)
4. Applied MPR++ 4.0 patch.exe

But, ECM will crash when entering the ships tab on the research menu. Then I installed Vanilla without Dxwnd and 1368 resolution and applied MPR++ 2.6c. Vanilla did not crash when entering ships tab. Then I tried the same process with ECM and the game still crashed when selecting ships tab.

Has anyone else had this problem on Windows 10? I didn't have any issues on my old laptop when running BOTF 1.02, ECM 3.0 and MPR++ 2.6c. Does anyone still have ECM 3.0 stand alone file with large map?

Update

I even tried ECM 4.0a.exe standalone but that one will not even run. It says Mss32.dll is missing. I copied it from Vanilla and added it to ECM folder so game will not run.

So in summary, I can run Vanilla with MPR++ installed, ECM install from All in One crashes when entering ship tab and ECM 4.0a won't run at all.

Here's the error log from Windows 10:

this post brings up so many questions

why did you install vanilla 1366? does your laptop support 1920 x 1080?

when entering research screen, ship tab does it crash on all races any ship or does it just crash when you select one particular ship?

did you install ECM with DxWnd? if so how are you starting game? desktop icons will start DxWnd automatically. you should use trek.exe in install path.

are you starting ECM game in windowed or fullscreen?

when you re-installed all in one 2.0.0 for ECM did you uninstall everything (including tools)? if using MPR++ you should not install tools.

after your update

where are you installing ECM (install path)? give complete path C:/botf/ECM

Explain how "ECM 4.0a won't run at all" this is an installer, how does it fail? the installer does not check if Mss32.dll is present and should not give such a message.
here is the link to the installer you need to install last.

You're asking me all these questions when all I did was follow your original instructions
ECM has not had a large map version since ECM 3.0

If you do changes below you would no longer have normal map version.

install order
1. install ECM from all in one 2.0.0 with option 1920 x 1080
2. apply ECM_1920_1080_large_map.patch with bof_patcher see link and attachment below
viewtopic.php?f=126&t=2515#p35394

ECM_1920_1080_large_map.patch
(5.22 KiB) Downloaded 36 times

note; this patch only works on ECM 1920 x 1080
3. apply MPR++_demo_installer_0.2.6c.exe (use ECM normal option not large, large installs to wrong path)
4. apply MPR++_demo_ECM_4.0_patch.exe

Installed ECM 1920_1080 just like you said. Installed DxWnd tools. I ran trek.exe from install path. The game crashes when selecting ships tab in research menu. It crashes immediately after clicking the button so I can't select any specific ships.

I used 1366 resolution after 1920_1080 failed. I don't know what's wrong with the ECM 4.0a installer or why it told me Mss32.dll was missing. It was missing so I added the file from Vanilla folder and it still wouldn't launch. It did nothing as in it wouldn't run at all.

I updated my original post with the error log from Windows 10. Does that help?

So you're sayinig I shouldn't install the tools? I just installed ECM for about the 10th time. 1920_1080, no tools and no MRR++. Now I just get an error message and it won't even launch.

Okay, I am trying it again. Here's exactly what I do. Install path is D:/BOTF/ECM. My laptop supports 1920_1080.

I have now installed ECM with 1920_1080 resolution, no tools and no MPR++. What should I do from here to get MRP++ working?

does ECM work? the mouse will be very slow to respond, but you need to test if you can see ships in research screen.

does your laptop have a second drive? or is it partitioned? or is this a flash drive?

correct if MPR++ is to be used you should not install DxWnd (tools)

what message are you getting? if it will not run at this point it will not run properly at all.

I uninstalled everything including Vanilla then reinstalled Vanilla, ECM and UDM. So, it's working now but MPR++ is not installed.

BOTF is installed on D:BOTF. That's my HDD. Are you able to help get MPR++ working from here now that base ECM is working again?

Yes, it staggers when dragging it across galaxy map and it's slow in research menu when hovering over shiplist

install the large map patch and test if map displays (large irregular) and you can see research screen displays ships.

I installed the large map patch. After selecting large irregular galaxy the game crashes.
