Hotkeys
With the exception of the "Enter" key, I've never really messed around with keyboard controls in BOTF before. No reason, really; I just haven't.
Tonight, however, I wound up doing a little experimenting, and holy crap! This game has all sorts of hotkeys, much more than I'd imagined. I'm sure this doesn't come as news to most here, but I have to admit it was a bit of a revelation for me. Talk about handy!
Anyway, I was curious as to what people's experience(s) with hotkeys have been: I think my new personal favorite is/are the "HJKL" keys, which duplicate the arrow keys' ability to navigate around the map. Very handy for right-handed people (at least it is for me), as I'm finding them generally less awkward to use than the arrow keys. I also like the "I/O" keys for switching between the small & large map-views, respectively.
On the other hand, I learned the hard way to never touch the "T" button. I hadn't saved before I did so, and I wound up sending a ship into an unstable wormhole!

Quite a few others collected here.
I don't think I could get by without the I/O keys. Even on a small map, I'm back and forth trying to keep track of things every turn.

I always use the arrow keys. Hey I am a lefty LOL.
I forgot about the I,O keys, have to think about that again. I forget what T does. What does it do again?

Heh.
As it happens, I later on last night discovered the arrow keys do have one at least one major advantage over the HJKL keys: You can still use them even when you have a ship or task force selected/clicked. You cannot do the same with the HJKL keys.

It ends the turn. So be careful about using it!

Hi I found this one today,
in research page sometime list is too long to display like this.
when you have the last possible selected as shown above clickon F4 button and the list will move up like this.
To move list back down, click on top shown item and click F4 again

Thanks Thunderchero, I could have used that ealier in my game lol. At least now I know for next time. So would that mean F5 would scroll it back up again?
I am surprised not to see scroll bar tabs on the side to go up and down.

You are probably all going to think I'm retarded since I've been playing this game since it came out. And I play at least once a week, often every day.... but, I never knew there were hot keys.... All I ever use are arrows on the small map and the mouse to click on all the commands. Never occurred to me to start hitting keys.
LMFAO. That is me as well so you are not aloneeber3 wrote:You are probably all going to think I'm retarded since I've been playing this game since it came out. found another one out:
if you press "t" in tactical combat then it shows the frame rate. it's the little blue data in the screenshot. the yellow one is from att (ati tray tools)
both frame rates, the botf and the att one are counting constantly. I have another pic and in this one both have something around 100 fps, although they rarely show the same framerate
