noobs trying to play multiplayer - a few issues!

hi guys!

loving how this game is still going and all of your work!

ok first of all, me and my friend are using the 1.0.2 version of the game and we have got it to work on a few occasions but a lot of the times we get connected up (using ewarzone) we cannot select an empire and have to keep coming in and out numerous times to finally get it connected. thats all well and good after that, however, we can only seem to get in about 100 turns before the following turn seems to crash the game. we then cannot load the save game (which we both do every 10 turns). i manage to load it ok but when it says sending saved game to other player he cannot load the game and it crashes his end.

i am using windows 7 and he is on vista if that makes any difference. we have our firewalls both turned off and use ewarzone for the connection. ALSO when a third friend joins us he cannot go one turn in the game without his game crashing. we have noticed about these patches of hades and joker patch if that makes a difference but as the topic claims - we are noobs....

finally is there a way we could play the all the ages mod instead as it is a much better version we both have installed but with ewarzone it simply loads up version 1.0.2 everytime.??????

any help would be much appreciated and again thanks for all the superb work you have all done for the site and game :) :)

Sounds like you're using the bypass feature of warzone. It's quite buggy and the problem with selecting empires already got reported a dozen times.
The best way to come around is to disable the bypass and get botf to work without. If you have a router you'll have to set the ports of the router that are used by direct play (and botf) to forward to the computer on which you're running botf. To achieve this, use the DX Port Test of warzone (utilities dropdown) to check which ports are passing. (Note: the test is buggy on 47624)
Watch out for your router model at http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... rindex.htm, skip the advertisement, follow the instructions for forwarding direct play (directx 7) ports - the ports named in the dx port test of warzone - and if you have multiple computers you may also want to set static ips in your local network, cause else your router might forward to the wrong computer on next reboot.

It might also solve your other problem. Loading saves with bypass on can be troublesome as well. However I dunno why it's always? around turn 100. Maybe there's another problem like someone having a slightly different botf version. Or the savegame got corrupted in some way, I dunno.

For security reasons, I can't recommend to turn off your firewall. But often it's troublesome to configure it right, that's true.
With bypass on your firewall "should" get bypassed anyway.
If you're using comodo firewall, I'd tell you how to configure it right. ;)

hades is just for the graphics. It's using hardware rendering and doesn't work with many newer graphic cards anymore. shouldn't make a difference for your problems
joker's patch might make a difference, but I assume it's not the reason, dunno.
If you're using the multiinstallers you don't need joker's patch cause it's already included (pre-patched).

If you've installed that mod with the multiinstallers, you'll have to use the "Other Games" Lobby in warzone instead of the botf Lobby. In the Other Games Lobby you can select which game and mod to play by the "Change" button next to the launch button.

gl & hf :)

Also, Flocke didnt mention but BOTH of you need the SAME exact version of All the Ages mod installed, so if one of you chooses Build Minor Race Ships, and the other chooses Normal Ship Building, you wont be able to play together. One will say Build: All Ages Mod (with minor shipbuilding) and the other will just say All Ages Mod (without minor shipbuilding)

Hope this helps
