Tournament Round 2
Firstly, well done to all those who emerged Victorious.
We have a few wins by default, I predicted seeing some noobie players advance.
HOWEVER, Some players seem to have fallen off the planet, and either not played or not posted their results. I have given these players a PM and an extra 24 hours, but they are all missing.
I deem it unfair to make those who have finished wait any longer, so sadly all those who have not completed are disqualified.
Since we now have a reduced number of players in round 2, I have had to redo the brackets.
Matches are now as follows

Same rules as before with regards to Race / Starting etc.

Anyone who has not come back to me with either a result, or a complaint of an inactive player, has been knocked out.
I have sent pm to not only Shawlax and Froda, but every player who had not posted, but I have only had Crashpm come back to me.

It would be a great democracy (*spelling*) if we could wait forever and a day for every player, but then that would not be fair to the other players.
I know it sounds harsh, but Everyone has had two weeks to either post on forums or send me pm.

For what it's worth, I think you've been quite fair mediating the first tournament. I hope to do as well when I mediate Season 2.

Alright, all ego aside now.
I've set up test games for the 5 empires using the starting conditions, since it's been so long since I've not only played Vanilla, but the level 4 start is something I've never played.
The Ferengi (in particular) and Feds are pretty much dead meat at this tech aren't they? Is it general opinion that the Cards, Klingons and Roms are sort of matched at this level?
At first glance it seems the Roms are the clear victor at Tech 4, but I have a feeling the Cardies and Klingons can do fairly well too.
Any other tips or opinions out there?

Cardassian ships are slow and under-powered at tech 4 IMO. Their research is bunk too. But if you can seclude yourself, build destroyers and research destroyer 2 as fast as possible.
Klingons are pretty good at this tech. Scouts are fast and the cloak attack really gives them an edge.
I would imagine feds are better at tech 4 than they are at tech 5 since they can research very well.

fed's are pretty solid all round on tech 4 apart fom intel, but that's their weakness throughout the board and can be covered if you can get hold of a couple of the minors who specialise on the intel front.
Ship wise, the are the only empire to start with a command level cruiser at tech 4 (galaxy 600/208 sheilds/armor), all the others need a 6 in three areas and if you look at the feds they need 6 in three areas to get the upgrade for the galaxy.
they're Short on range and speed but so's the opposition.
if you want speed over defense then go for the Klingons, otherwise the feds, roms and cards are pretty evenly matched for light cruisers.
Fergs are a dead loss though, they don't get the marauder or an upgrade to the war cruiser until tech 7 and their origional war cruiser is hopelessly out dated by the other empires at this starting point.

Hrm, people are giving the Feds more credit than I thought they deserved.
The Command Cruiser is the logical build choice because of the upgrade, but as upgrades go it's a pretty small one and still leaves the CC with short range and 1 speed. Everyone but the Ferengi just got huge upgrades to their cheap and now fast Destroyers in the same timeframe. I would have thought the feds would be outclassed pretty badly at that point.
