Okay I think GameRanger works pretty well...and for those of us who can't get away with setting up a static IP and not screwing up our internet access, this has got to be the EASIEST thing to use.
Anyone interested? I often have a game open and waiting, just log on and find it!

I am always interesting for a game, but i play UDM(L) and on game ranger you can play only vanilla i think. Enter WZ if you want a game, but watch out.. i don`t have mercy

incorrect, when in lobby right click or in option you would need to select the path to trek.exe. just select path to UDML. Both players must select same version.
it has been a long time since I have played on game ranger but I know this was possible.
But even game ranger suggests setting up ports to prevent sync errors. port 16000 UDP

I have been playing on GameRanger recently , both Balance of Power and Ultimate Dominion mods worked fine. You just have to drag the trek.exe file of the mod over the original trek.exe file of Botf.

this is not suggested (operating mod from wrong path) and not necessary. all players need to browse for the correct path, with room open click on "friends" then select "option" in new window find "Birth of the Federation" and browse for path of the mod you want to play. see image below.
after change it should look like this for UDML

what is EW?
If you mean warzone yes it does, you can select any directplay game when you sign in to "other games" lobby

started a game with aptuttle, so far going well, connection pretty stable. I do have my ports open to wz stuff but not to ports suggested by gameranger. also I get nat router warning every time but so far this has not been an issue. so yes, if wz no go, try gr.
