Hello Everyone!
I am having some trouble playing a multiplayer game with a friend on GameRanger, we are able to connect to each other in Gameranger, however, when either of us clicks START, it just boots up the game, shows us the intro cinematic, and jumps to the main title screen, while the other person is left with, waiting for host. Is there something else that we need to do? Something that we are missing?

Re: New User
Hi tinytwo,
sorry to hear you are having trouble.
Gameranger is one of the more simpler multi-player lobby to use.
Note: all players need to have same version installed with exact same options and unedited version of the game to be played.
It is also suggested that all player use the same operating system to lessen sync errors.
1. host needs to open a room. (person with best internet connection is suggested)
2. other players need to join the hosts room
3. next each player should check if gameranger is using proper path to trek.exe (path must be changed for mod game play)
top left of room select room tab then options, in new window browse for proper path note: if Dxwnd is being used, open DxWnd at this point. DxWnd window only needs to be open do not start game though Dxwnd.
4. host starts game though gameranger window (bottom right button "start" of image above) joining players game should start automatically.
5. host will need to select game options to continue to race selection screen, or host can load saved game to continue to race selection screen.
6. once all player have selected a race to play the host selects continue to start game.

Re: New User
How does the "Host" select the options? When we both click the start button game ranger, the game launches to the title screen. Like this.
What do we need to do next? Is there something that we are missing from this point?

Re: New User
once you get to that screen host would select "new Multi-player game" to start new game or "load game" to continue saved game.
other players (joining players) only need to select "new multiplayer game"
other players (joining players) only need to select "new multiplayer game"
Re: New User
And from there, what do you need to select after that?
When I mean new user, I really mean NEW user.

Re: New User
Do the exact same as single player game selection and race selection, except you will have to wait for joining players to select there race before continuing.tinytwo wrote:And from there, what do you need to select after that?

if you have never played a single player game before, I suggest doing this first before attempting multi-player games.
Re: New User
Maybe I am not explaining myself clearly. When we click "New Multiplayer Game" this is the screen I get.
Where do I go from there? Keep in mind, this is when I am hosting or my friend hosts, and we click start in the gameranger lobby. The game boots up for the host, and the host gets the title screen as pictured above. THe Host then gets the above screen when they click new multiplayer game. We don't know where to go from there.

Re: New User
That is interesting, because we do. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

possible reasons for this issue
1. firewall blocking gameranger
2. nat port issue with gameranger
3. directplay not enabled
4. directplay registry set improperly or missing
5. starting game from other than gameranger launcher button "start".
6. directX 9 redist needed
