vanilla has hob patch option in All in one installer (installed by default) but the person installing can uncheck this option and is not suggested.

low population will not kill AI on first turn, it must be set to 0

the more human player the better chance of packets being lost.

use windowed mode so player can chat though game ranger.

Finally got this working in Gameranger as I'm not very technical, but when I get into the game it says "A synchronisation error has occurred. The multiplayer game cannot continue in its current state. Please have the host load a saved game an reconnect."

Any tips?

most sync errors happen when the players current turn is out of sync, example player 1 on turn 52 while player 2 is on turn 53.

this will happen when a player double clicks the turn button during turn processing.

if it is the first time this happens host can re-load prior saved game by re-naming last.sav to unused save slot.

problem really happens when you attempt to continue on corrupt error save file.
