Game report:

I played Peelster1. I chose Fluid's mod, T5 large, imposs, irreg, many minors. He chose Feds, I took Cards.

I started in middle left, he the middle right, seperated by Fergs.

Fortunately I met Ullians, Ktarians and Betazed before turn 10, so I quickly conquered them and had a strong intel base. I met Feds by turn 43, but they were quite a way away, so I conquered Roms by turn 56 instead, before heading to Fed space with an invasion fleet. Peelster1 held out well, and after a few skirimishes it ended around turn 80 ish. I had about 27HCs, 15 D2s, and a fleet of scouts. I had an extra 12 HCs but Peelster1 managed to take them out when they seperated from my main fleet. :)

This was Peelster1's first MP, so good on you for joining in the tournament and thanks for the game.

Congrats to Tequilla Sunriese,

he defeated me in a quick game of UDM normal, t5 hard, many minors.

I was in lower left and he was just to the right of me. we meet before turn 20 I think. While I was occupied with Cardassins directly above me I did not see his cloaked fleet approaching and he hit my smaller fleet at our border. his cloak advantage took out half of my scouts and I tried with the ships I had left to take out as many as I could, but I only took out a couple ships before the battle ended.

during that time I was taking minors from the cardassians but they ended up being worthless since all of their industry had been destroyed in bombardments. I rebuilt a small fleet and decided to attempt to start to try to occupy his systems. but his cloaked fleet hit me before I had a chance and I surrendered.

I could have spent many turns rebuilding again, but at that point the same out come would have happened.

good game

Early game I immediately cut off the Klingons in the top right corner, who later offered an Affiliation treaty, and then proceeded to do just about nothing for the rest of the game. I made a goal to obtain at least friendship treaties with every minor race I met, but several were underdeveloped so when I met RSE_Chris and his Cardassians, I still had no member worlds. I did find the Edo near the Klingon border and had a nice buffer zone between Federation and Klingon territory.

When I met the Ferengi I noticed they had subjugated the Bajorians and Caldonians. I gave myself the goal of freeing those systems. I had a few early skirimishes with Ferengi forces intruding on my territory, but nothing major. A good chance to raise morale. The Ferengi parked their main fleet over Caldonia, so I stuck my fleet around to the North, around the time I was about to invade, the Klingons sent me a War Pact against the Ferengi whom they formerly had a peace treaty with. I accepted their proposal. I liberated Bajor with no losses and then noticed that the Ferengi had moved their fleet off of Caldonia. I immediately moved there, destroyed their unguarded Troop Transports and Outpost and freed Caldonia. At this point I had to divert my fleet to deal with the upcoming Cardassian threat. The Ferengi attempted to retake Bajor, but the orbital batteries were able to hold off 2 assaults. Having had enough, the Ferengi asked for peace which was accepted as justice had been served. Had the Ferengi not moved their fleet away, I may not have been able to win that war against them as soon as I did.

Around this time RSE_Chris had arrived at my southwest border. As his ships were in violation of Federation space, we requested that they withdraw. This was met with a response of "If our demands are met." What followed was an outrageous demand of 10000 credits. Naturally, the Federation does pay tribute and the Cardassians were told as such. With a reply of "The Federation will pay one way or the other." Federation citizens knew that a war was coming, especially after hearing reports that a distant empire called The Romulan Star Empire had fallen to a mysterious force, which we suspected was the Cardassians. We would never know of these so called Romulans. Soon after meeting the Cardassians, there was mass sabotage to which I put more effort in reassigning my population to building more Databases for Intel centers.

A scout I had sent out located the Cardassian outpost in some empty space south of the Ferengi. I was hoping to sneak an outpost in that region of space for a surprise attack. However, RSE_Chris had a couple of scouts monitoring those areas. Attempts of splitting the fleet to catch the scouts left with not enough firepower to kill them. Running out of time as RSE_Chris had begun construction of his next outpost in attempts to reach Federation space, I knew my only hope was to take out the outpost and strand his fleet. 18 Heavy Cruisers and 9 Scouts guarded the Cardassian outpost under construction. I was really hoping to destroy the 1st Outpost before the 2nd was constructed, but it was too late by the time I was ready, RSE_Chris had begun to convert the 2nd outpost into a Starbase with a considerable guardian fleet. With not enough time to scout the area properly I sent 9 Heavy Destroyers into the 1st Outpost blind. Met with only 6 minor race cruisers guarding the outpost the outpost was destroyed. Chris retaliated with a strike at my outpost of 28 Heavy Cruisers against my 9 Heavy Destroyers about 12-15 Destroyers and 2 Vulcan Cruisers. The Federation came out of that battle victorious, but at cost. Only 5 Heavy Destroyers survived. They were wiped out by the 2nd Cardassian fleet soon after.

In most cases, I would not normally call the game at this point, as I likely did have time to rebuild. I had begun add minor races into the Federation with the Bolians, Chalnoth, Vulcans, and Bajorians. I had bribed the Vulcans away from the Klingons. I was also in the process of bribing the Yridians away from the Ferengi. The Vulcans were at the edge of the map just north of the Klingons and I had used my affiliation treaty with the Klingons to shortcut those 2 ships through Klingon space to join the main fleet. In the interest of time and knowing I was on the losing end, I surrendered at this point. I did have Starbases defending my main worlds and the Edo kept asking for membership. I was able to slow but not stop the sabotage by this point, but I was still building for more Intel. I was also about 75% toward having Level 9 tech as well. Having access to Heavy Escorts may have helped. We were about even with the number of systems we had as well. But I never expected to win from the beginning and there was not much of a point in dragging out a long defensive war for the small chance that I could win. My main goal was just to have some fun with a few battles here and there, and it was fun indeed. I was also glad to have succeeded in my sub-goal of freeing two systems from Ferengi control.

Who would be up for a losers bracket in this tournament?

Tried tried to record the game but forgot to change the settings. Game was fine but I would have wanted a longer one. I fucked up the settings because I thought T5 means everyone is on tech 5. Turns out you start almost maxed out. I never really tested this so my first 20 turns were a waste. I met thunderchero right away around turn 20 and our home worlds were about 7 sectors apart from each other. Three systems in between which stayed neutral after an initial skirmish.
Before that I met the Klingon AI which contested my upper expansion. I destroyed their fleet and took their colonies but since they had 25 orbital batteries I couldn't touch their home systems. Cardassians were above them and I never really got to them. They conquered my Tholian friends but the game ended before I could start my Cardassian war campaign. Also met the Federation towards the end of the game which was in the lead in the statistics. Unfortunately, the Klingon were allied with every other AI so I had war declared on me by every major race within the 50 rounds or something.

At some point I realized that the AI would have me occupied for dozens of turns while I could nearly nothing out of their systems so I turned my attention to thunderchero because this was probably the only real way to win for me. He had twice the number of system I had (I had barely any colonized at the point) and twice as much dilithium. I overestimated his fleet and attacked about 30 of his ships to even the odds. Due to my cloak I lost nothing in the fight. Even in the final confrontation I lost only 3 ships due to cloak.

The lesson to be learned here is that I should never again pick cloak races and maybe fiddle with some of the other settings to produce fairer games :D
