What follows is a copy of the post from old forum. It was created by Sarge - see his rather lenghty preambule. It was somewhat restrictive as it insisted on the hamach use alone. However, since then WZ showed up which was a HIT so i would not be as limiting and think everybody should post their info regardless of their mp venue... I find, even if you can't play regularly - most of us have jobs, families, and other stuff on the go - still, some valuable contacts can be made and occasional MP games can be scheduled... The spur of the moment is great thing, but the reality is - you can't do that in the real world... If Sarge still insists on the Hamachi requirements, then i guess we'll need to come up with an alternative list...

Also, please note - most of the players come from the old boards - so you may not be able to pm them - just email them... hopefully they will show up on the new and improved forum...

Sarge's list:

This posted is aimed to create order within the chaos which is the multiplayer of BOTF. I am aware of many players that are interested in playing BOTF online, however the main problem is the inability for players to get in contact with each other, in order to initiate a game of BOTF. For this reason I have created this post.

The Post works on the basis of participation you give us the information required form you, and that way we can all get in contact with each other and play. However in order to participle in this post you must agree with the following;

All Players in this post are only interested in Hamachi Based network games
None of the players on this list below are interested in any other kind of 3rd party software beside Hamachi

This simple requirement above ensures no disorder and disagreements between plays on which platform to use inorder to conduct games. One of the issues with players was that no one was sure what to use Hamachi, Kali, etc. This solves that problem - USE Hamachi!

Now that we have all those issues above out of the way. Below is the format which you should reply. Please try to keep comments or any extra text to a minimum.

After about 2 months, or depending how many people reply to this post I will create a list of players which will be included at the bottom of this post.

Verified players, will be players which I contacted personally ato check to see if they are able to play regularly. This will save many players from being forced to scroll throughout the entire post and add players that are never around... Since I already did it for them...

I cant force anyone to use a certain type of IM program; however I am giving three popular options. Do NOT put your email anywhere, the reason for this is because emails are slow, and games can never really get arranged.

MSN Is the Preferred IM program for BOTF Multiplayer games, if you do not have MSN Messenger their is two other options to use. If you don’t have any of those programs don’t reply, or get one.

Sometime soon I will be creating a BOTF website specially geard towards Multiplayer BOTF, I happen to be a programmer so I already have plans to create a software sorta like a hybrid between Hamachi, and mIRC, which will allow chat with other players in-game while looking for BOTF games. Of course this site wont be to compete with Armada fleet in anyway.

play all, somewhat partial to the underdogs (ferengi), but will play any race... vanilla, prime directive, T10, UDM3, balance of power - any mod that does not have HIGH poly count new models, any size maps - small for quick and ruthless, large for epic/multi-session, many minors, T5, impossible.

Question for ruthlessferengi, seeing as you started this thread?

I work based from home and my employer supplies my internet connection, subscription and cost of dedicated telephone line

They have recently sent out instructions for all employees not to use MSN or similar programs (in all my years with computers I don't even know what an IM is but I guess it stands for "instant messager" or something?

I want to play MP games and can be available at various times so what's wrong with:-

e-Mail?

Using this forums Private Messaging system?

or just going on to eWarzone?

Sarge was very dogmatic about not even bothering to try to play MP over internet if you haven't got MSN or another IM

So if I want to put myself forward for MP games is it a problem to use this forum's PM system or e-Mail??

I know you didn't ask me but to be honest most games are played by just going onto warzone, i rarely play games that have been arranged through the forum or MSN.

ever since WZ showed up, i played most of mp games on pick up... however, most of the folk i play with are either under the addiction watch by their loving boss/family or plain too busy.. planning ahead definitely helped if you deal with busy folk...

i don't mind if people contact me ahead of time, in fact i'd prefer that but it is always nice just to show up and pick up a game... everybody is different, i suppose, but you can email/pm me.. also, we can discuss a choice of mods, expectations etc and get into the game right off the bat...

Thanks for response, I got impression that Sarge's original post would make it difficult for me to play MP over internet

We've been playing BOTF for years in MP at home on a LAN, but apart from a few abortive attempts on eWarzone due to technical difficulties, haven't played over internet yet and am looking forward to some new opponents

Am on GMT, but on occasion will play really late so could still fit in with trans-atlantic time zone

Until UDM 2.1.4 came out I always played Vanilla but have since come to really like UDM 3.0 G or H, especially as I've created a new interface or skin that replaces the ferengi look entirely and has a Dominion feel to it

As a Ferengi lover, I'm sure you wouldn't approve

Anyhow, I'll play Vanilla or UDM 3.0 G or H or earlier if desired and will play any tech level and any empire (Vanilla or UDM)

Haven't tried any other Mods, but would be prepared to give them a go, as long as they are up to the standard of UDM 3.0
