I love early tech games but I either go too heavy on science and not enough production or the reverse. Any simple advice to go by?

Playing UDM mod.

Thank you

If you're not already doing so, specialize your star systems. Large systems should generally focus on industrial output and building ships; smaller systems are generally best used to produce research and intel.

Even the systems for intel and research need industry to get those intel and research.

I have built many big empires with well over 100 systems and in some mods millions and millions of credits (one mod I stopped at over 4 million credit because it got boring and was all naturally done). The way I do it is simple. Colonize fast. It doesn't matter who I am playing (Feds, Cards, Kling, Domin, etc) I keep building colony ships and teraforming like it is going out of style.

Sure sometimes I over reach and lose a system here or there but I am building like crazy. Often by turn 100 I have 20 to 40 systems and before long I am unstoppable. I have to much industry, to much intel, etc. Plus my economy gets huge like 50,000+ per turn (in some mods), so I can just pay off a major and make them my alliance partner.

So bottom line... Colonize! Colonize! Colonize!
