Birth of the Federation

Hi there, I'm new in the game, do you know if it's possible to improve old starships to their new version? avoiding to have all the "Enterprises" flying around

In vanilla, ships are automatically upgraded once you gain the appropriate advancement.
They will only improve from like to like, so you'll go from "destroyer" to "destroyer II", as opposed to replacing a destroyer II with a heavy destroyer.
