Defense against Ramming

Post by Robbs »

I've been playing quite a bit of ECM 4.1 ( as Fed) and the AI tends to ram quite a bit now. I usually win battles, but my fleets take a beating. (Particularly the escorts.)

So I figured I'd ask the group. My guiding principles are to keep distance and target the fastest ships first. This means escorts usually evade while the heavies assault the enemy light ships. Results are mixed.

How would you all go about it?

Yes, 'evade' is a good tactic for ships with low hull points against ramming. For fast ships 'Strafe' also works quite well if the ramming ship is slower.

But you should test the new ECM 5 test version: viewtopic.php?p=54906#p54906 (many new AI codes)

ECM 4.1 uses outdated AI jihad ram code (random wildcard target).

The new AI ram is explained here (end of post): viewtopic.php?f=221&p=52751#p52751 (but a bit cryptic and AI target selection is still silly)
I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.
