How to create race intro

Post by thunderchero »

Hi Everyone,

sound_editing_pack

This "how to" is how to get to proper format for BOTF, creation you should already know how to do this.

video
First lets start with the codec used by BOTF "cvid" this uses the iccvid.dll that comes with multi installer (this was updated by jokers patch) by cinepak version 1.10.0.6 (newer version do not work)

cinepak is a very low quality encoder (low res) so do not expect HD quality.

audio
BOTF for video's (intro and race intro) use PCM 22050 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
BOTF for sounds (files in English/german.snd, alt.res, sfx.snd) use IMA ADPCM 22.050 KHz 4bit stereo 21 kb/sec

windows sound recorder is only program that I have found that will convert to IMA ADPCM 22.050 KHz 4bit stereo 21 kb/sec properly. (This file is part of sound_editing_pack)

you can create the video and audio separately or together any way you like to start with. (it can be separated later)

once you are ready to convert use VirtualDub.exe in "VirtualDub-1_4" folder in sound_editing_pack to separate video and audio.

open video in VirtualDub.exe

Image

next if video and audio is one file separate wav file. save as "example" F.wav

Image

next set audio to "No audio"

Image

next in video tab select "full processing mode" then select "compression..." in new window select "Cinepak codec by Radius" select check box for "force keyframes every" and enter value "150"

Next you need to check if correct iccvid.dll is being used click on "configure" in new window you should see "version 1.10.0.6" and "compress to color" should already be selected.

Image

next "save as avi..."

Image

if your audio is not already proper format you need to convert it to "PCM 22050 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo" now. you can use windows sound recorder to do this. (You may need to run in compatibility mode "windows XP service pack 3" and "run as administrator")

IMPORTANT NOTE audio must be 1 sec shorter than video so last frame will not hang starting game.

Now your video and audio should be ready to mux.

open "AVIMux_GUI.exe" in "AVIMux_GUI" folder. (You may need to run in compatibility mode "windows XP service pack 3" and "run as administrator") depending on your OS

Image

With AVIMux_GUI.exe open drag or right click "add" your video file into top plane. then click button "generate data source from files"

Image

drag or right click "add" your audio file into top plane. it will automatically place it in lower plane.

Image

next I will just be images of the setting screens they should be preset in package (I hope)

note: mkv setting do not matter since file is saved as avi

then just click start button and save new race intro.

good luck

This worked for me on the first try--which should be enough evidence to say it's foolproof.

The link to the sound editing pack appears to be broken.

I've been attempting to get two videos converted, but after separating the audio in VirtualDub, it is shortened dramatically. It seems like if there is any moment of silence in the audio file, that it stops at that moment. As a result, my audio files end up only being 6 to 8 seconds long. I'd upload the video files into this post for anyone to take a look at, but .avi files are not an allowed attachment it seems. If anyone can help me out with the conversion, perhaps I could PM the files or upload onto a file sharing website for download.

Yes. Both video are videos that I've complied using Windows Movie Maker and have saved as a "final video". I intend for them both to become race intro videos when finished.

Yes, after saving the edits as an mp4 and then converting to an avi for upload into VirtualDub, the audio is still merged with for both videos. It is when I attempt to save as wav that the audio has the issue of being reduced to 6 seconds for one clip (a Borg Intro) and 8 seconds for the other (a Terran Empire intro) despite being 23 seconds and 20 seconds long for the videos. 6 seconds into the Borg intro is where I changed the clip in the editor, (but if there is any silence, it is for a fraction of a second) 8 seconds into the Terran Empire clip, the speaker stops talking as a dramatic pause before continuing, the audio for that clip has no edits.
