Except old games still crash. I have set the AAML trek.exe file to run as administrator and this prevents the game from running at all.

you can try running DxWnd as admin instead.

as for your video issue that I have never seen before,

if you changed setting to windowed doesn't that give a window box and cut off bottom?

Yes. This is what it does. And I can't play the game in full screen mode at all (which actually would seem to have a better appearance.. What appears in Full Screen mode is just 25% to 35% of the screen starting with the top left of the screen. I can't see any of the load buttons at the game start up at all.

does your display support 1920 x 1080?

if so you can try BotF Resolution Patch

this patch tool need access to the wdf files, so you need to extract all files from stbof.res to an empty folder and run BotF Resolution Patch tool

Hey guys, I am also having the issue where after patching (the 800x600 install off the all in one installer, clean install today) of vanilla and UDM with the 1920 i only get the upper left hand corner of the normal screen, the rest of it appears to continue off my monitor somewhere. Opening through the Dxwnd. I have installed it on other computers and had no issues. Not sure what the root cause of this is, any help would be appreciated. Just did fresh install again, heres the screenshot of issue right on main screen. Thanks everyone in advance

did you reduce image size? 800 x 450 I have never seen before. also you stated you installed 800 x 600, but screenshot tells me you installed wide screen 1366 x 768 before installing 1080 patch.

you might also try to run the "BotF Resolution Patch" from post above yours.

also did you install fullscreen version of dxwnd?

Hey thunderchero, I did reduce image size because it did not allow me to upload as it said file was to big, but i retained the original ratio so that you could see what i saw. That is exactly how it looks on my monitor. I did install full screen version of dxwnd, and i did install 1366 in the past. maybe its not uninstalled correctly? I just went into the windows app manager and uninstalled that way, prior to doing the 'clean' install, couldnt find an uninstaller in dxwnd or in the file location. i saw the patch but I am unsure of what a WDF file is or how to find. didnt see anything in my install folder labelled stbotf.res either? now that you say that (it looks like it was applied to a 1366 res install) I am wondering if it wasnt a full or clean uninstall. Do you know how to uninstall another way besides windows app manager?

1. 1080 patch should only be installed on 800 x 600 (start game to confirm 800 x 600 before running 1080 patch)
2. 1080 patch uses registry to patch proper file location and is only installer still patching trek.exe so watch for anti virus blocking patching app during install.

registry locations (each version/mod will have separate registry)
64 bit systems
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microprose (Written by installer)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications (Written by installer)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall (written by windows but uses app id from installer)

32 bit systems
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microprose (Written by installer)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications (Written by installer)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall (written by windows, but uses app id from installer)

3. windows app manager should do a clean uninstall, unless duplicate was created in different location.

Just did a search and could not find any duplicate installs, pretty sure I hadn't installed it on this pc build yet anyways prior to today, but double checked to be sure. doing another uninstall and re install currently. I dont (shhh) have an antivirus program lol. its a very modern build 64 bit of course. ryzen 2700x gtx1080 16gb ddr4 and an nvme m.2 ssd. i cant see any of that being an issue using dxwnd though, and have used the game on my wifes gaming laptop with no issues with your patch and it worked to perfection (thank you so much). I am really not sure what the registry locations do for me? Is that what the file names should be before/after patching for me to verify it was succesful? or? I am sorry to be a pain, and your replies so quickly on an old thread are hugely appreciated, not taken for granted believe me!
attached is a pic of current (11:33pm here in ontario) fresh install to verify 800x600 install

after reading your last post I am guessing you have not attempted to install the 1080 patch?

1. re-download 1080 installer in case of corruption
2. right click installer and run as administrator

then check install

I had attempted to install the 1080 patch, i installed botf cleanly, then the patch, in succession 3 times to no avail. Just deleted and re downloaded the 1080 patch and re installed it, works perfectly, must have been corrupt as you suggested. Thank you for your time! I can now play in proper resolution, and the touch screen monitor works PERFECT, basically living in star trek over here lol! I should have tried that right away, sorry to be a pain!
