Yeah my latest prototype has certain editable properties, but not size. The way the system works is that objects with pictures cannot be manually resized, but objects without images like text boxes and placeholders can be freely resized. If you want to resize objects with associated images, just replace the TGAs. I think it's safer that way.

I'm a bit busy tonight to do any work on this, my new job requires me to take some night-time classes in web design :o

I decided to just give this a go real quick without resizing any graphics and I got this nifty CTD log:
ST:BOF Thu Oct 13 11:34:51 2011

Version Under Test: 72
File: wdfread.c, Line: 193, Cannot retrieve Object typeId = 2, instanceId = 2407 not found in Hsenergy.wdf

Initialize State: 31
Player Empire: 1 Starting Seed: 1318520090
Galaxy shape: 0 Galaxy Size: 0

This was only using QDs most recent patch tool not any files from TC. Again just a curiosity? :)

Hi xDx

I am not sure how this would react to the energy screen project, if you replaced the wdf files for energy screen project that error log makes since.

Okay guys, I have an update for the WDF editor. Get the latest version here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/botfwdftools/files/

Here are the changes:
  • fixed a bug with text areas not resizing properly in game
  • black transparency works -- at the expense of the editor background being black :(
  • 'c' centers on the selected object
  • arrow keys move the selected object by 1 pixel at a time
  • arrow keys scroll the view if no object is selected
  • and I added some basic help info (press F1)
I plan on making more changes later, that's all I had time for now

xDx, I agree with thunder's assessment. It looks like you used a version of Trek.exe with the energy screen patch, but used the original WDF files.

I actually need to make a few changes to the 1024x768 patchtool, as there are some hard-coded constants in Trek.exe that need to be synchronized with the WDF's to work properly. The patchtool assumes that everything will be stretched.

Ah yeeees that would make sense they wouldnt be compatible the way I installed the patches (energy screen patch then resolution patch). I'll try and see if reinstalling the energy screen patch after resolution patch works that way but I aint holding my breath. Or maybe just omitting the energy.wdf files when applying the resolution patch. I'll give it some tests and see if its as easy as I hope but modding BotF is about as user friendly as Win7 ;) Thanks guys for the quick responses as always. :)

Don't forget that the energy screen patch produces modified WDF files, the *senergy.wdf files. You need to copy those into STBOF.RES yourself (e.g. using UE). Maybe that's the problem?

I think I have all the files used now, since it uses mostly the vanilla tga buttons and some vanilla wdf I had to collect un edited files too.

New release of the WDF Editor!!

Get it here:
Changes since the last release:
  • Arrow keys always move the viewport.
  • Shift/Control and Arrow keys move selected objects.
  • New object selection mechanism: just play with selections holding down Shift and Control to see differences.
  • Background graphics can be replaced for certain objects using the context menu (right-click).
Note: there is a built-in TGA converter, so BMPs or PNGs will be automatically converted to TGAs on saving.
Note: the original TGA(s) will be overwritten when you save the WDF, unless you save to a different folder.
  • "File -> Save Full Copy" saves a WDF to different folder, copying any needed TGAs with it.
  • When quitting, it only asks you to save changes if you actually made any :D
wdfedit should now have all needed features to complete the 1024x768 Project.

This is still an alpha release (i.e. prototype). If you notice any bugs / problems, please report them!
