Universal 1920 x 1080 (updated 12-3-2016)

Post by thunderchero »

Hi Everyone,

Changes on 12-3-2016
installer updated
mods added, Flagship mod,No building upgrade mod, Prime Directive mod, Planet mod

Here is a "Universal" 1920 x 1080 installer. it covers most mods;

vanilla
Balance of Power
All the Ages mod
Ultimate Dominion mod
Ultimate mod 5-1024
Error Correction mod
UnCivil Wars
Galaxies mod
Fluid Multi-player mod
Flagship mod
No building upgrade mod
Prime Directive mod
Planet mod

This is an installer only, (no uninstaller) I suggest making backups of stbof.res and trek.exe before installing

Only use/install if your system is able to display 1920 x 1080
in my tests on lower display, screen would go black and need to "control alt delete" to exit/reboot

Multi 1080 installer

I have only tested installing to clean 800 x 600 versions. (except clean UM5-1024)
with MPR++ you will need to change the "display" setting in mpr++.ini to "FULLSCREEN" and will experience slight mis-alignment in combat
1920.jpg
1920.jpg (2.63 MiB) Viewed 11556 times
all maps sizes were increased in width by 40% for wider map area, height was unchanged. avg number of space objects was also increased by 40% and zoom was adjusted to 100 on all versions.

Notice; if you make any modification (adding ships or structures) you will need to create new image files.
new image files
****61.tga (structures) 60 x 50 with border
border.png
border.png (3.51 KiB) Viewed 11544 times
****_c.tga (structures) 509 x 425
i_***_c (ships) 509 x 425

game will crash if missing image, but crash log will give first missing image file name.

Let me know about any issues.

Thanks for the patch. I have been looking for this for years.

Everything seems to work fine. Ships are looking good and only crashed one time on the ship overview screen. I will try it more thoroughly in MP concerning stability and stuff.
The only thing I have found so far is that it does not work with the extended view.

could you explain issue you have? but keep in mind what "extended view" does.

1. small images for map icons were renamed as large image. (forced small images to be used)
2. hex change forcing ship icons smaller,
3. change zoomed in map view from 8 x 6 to 20 x 15

3. is ok for "large" maps but I went with general setting of 16 x 8 on all versions. This is still almost double vanilla 8 x 6

as for 1. and 2., I thought it should be forced to use larger icons on all maps with this large of gui.

I have had no issues editing size of "zoomed in"with UE, except as always Balance of power, Gowron used code UE does not recognize.

for 23 x 12 set "zoom-in" in UE to 70 (you must click any other value to auto adjust alignment multipliers before saving)
set to 60 will get 26 x 14

There were a few things:
The little "sun" icons aren't displayed on the map so you can't really tell whether there is a system or not on the map.
Then when you start a game the camera is always placed in the upper left corner with some system names clipping through the unexplored map.
And fleet icons look like 4x4 sprites but all of this is fixed by removing the extended view and the 1920x1080 patch basically does the same. I am using the patch without the extended view from now on. Seems to work pretty well.
Thanks !

Not sure if you are talking zoom-in view or full map?

here is a small file patch you could add files with UE.

large map icons renamed to replace small icons (also correct large icons if extended view is installed)
icons.rar
(20.49 KiB) Downloaded 169 times
next release these will be part of file, as well as edit code if old extended view code is present.

screenshot please or explain more
Westmensch wrote:And fleet icons look like 4x4 sprites
That is because they are only 13 x 13

on full map you can hex edit trek.exe to display larger icon "same as zoom-in view" at
0x17f18c and 0x17f1b8
change
31 33 to 32 36

I am always using the systems list when micromanaging every system (the one the gets multiple pages after ~20 (?) systems). Is it possible to expand the list to the bottom in your mod? Or is there a better method to cycle throw your systems? And is it possible to patch the game to allow bigger task forces (bigger than 18 ships)? I've been playing the game since its release in 1999 and always thought that especially in the end game when you do nothing but planetary assault the game gets a kinda work-not-leisure feeling.

post a screenshot this might have a max limit in trek.exe that could be edited?

I also used the summary page to go between systems when doing micromanagement, it has info on current build, food, industry and morale and scroll bar.

no, this was only allowed but shrinking the 4byte code to a 2byte code so 18 is max

Hi everyone,

any more feedback on RC1?

I tested the icons, and on standard maps it helped to use larger icons on full map and zoom-in. But on large version maps they were too big on full map when sectors get smaller.

Maybe you should place this thread more prominently and advertize it more. It's imho the most important mod since several years. I can't post a screenshot at the moment because I'm on botf withdrawal ;-)

Thank you thunderchero, I've initially had problems with my laptop not giving the game my dedicated graphics but it all worked out fine when using dxwnd. Looking amazing! It's brought BOTF into the 21st century! :D

It dont works on UDMIII (normal and large version) and BOP normal, i only see 1/4 of the screen. (upper left corner)
My display is native 1920x1080.

On Vanilla, BOP (large) and ECM it works fine.

just tested on my system and worked fine. (tested UDM normal)

it sounds like an install error, just to narrow down where it went wrong on your system what do you see in upper left corner? 800 x 600 version or only part of 1920 x 1080?

if 800 x 600 res files did not install properly
if you see only part of 1920 x 1080 the trek.exe was not edit during install
thunderchero wrote:I have only tested installing to clean 800 x 600 versions. (except clean UM5-1024)
have you made any changes prior to installing this patch?

was 1024 x 768 already installed prior to installing 1920 x 1080?

things you can try to fix would be
run installer as admin (doubt this would matter since it installed properly on other mods)
uninstall and reinstall the mod that installed incorrectly
only install on 800 x 600 versions (except UM5)
run installer again but be sure not to close or any command windows during install

sorry you are having issues, but if you follow above it should install properly.
