Directplay Error

Post by Nick2730 »

Hi guys having problems play on warzone, everytime i do if I do not use bypass i get a directplay error. I already know what the problem is just not how to fix it. When you go to dxdiag and check under network tab then under Registered Lobby able DirectPlay Applications should be BOTF, for me nothing is there, there is also no entry in the registry for it either. How do i fix this to add manually? I am using XP-64 and im sure thats the problem

have you tried re-installing the latest DirextX ?

have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your network adapator ?

these two normally fix a good number of problems, let me know either way ( as a X64 runner also :D )

I have too a 64-bit system and I solved the directplay error by using gameranger instead of warzone.

I've never heard of DX9 problems with XP64. maybe its some error with the registry itself. But it could be other problems, as well.

To help you with this odd problem some more information could help...

Did you installed game from multi installers or from old original Win95 CD or iso? (maybe under compatibility mode?)

did you tried reinstalling directx again?
Registry: there are lots of tools out there to check and repair registry. do a backup and try out some of them...

ok here's the standard procedure:
Check the registry for errors. Deinstall BotF completely and check registry again. Search for keywords "trek.exe", "microprose" and "BotF".
If some are left, remove them manually.

Then reinstall BotF completely from multi installers (install Main Multi 1.02 before installing any mods). After doing so check the registry again.
If everything is ok now you don't need further information.

Ok reinstalling the game didn't helped. Some of the key entries are drawn to directplay. in your case they were not created. We don't know the reason. So maybe manually adding them to the registry will help.

{18C94B21-9C7B-11D0-933A-00608CEA7318} is to find under directplay menu in dxdiag for Main Multi 1.02 install (Birth of the Federation in wz)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications\Birth of the Federation //name of key
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Standard (no value set)
CommandLine -L //starts game with unavailable sp mode
Current Directory C:\botf //in this case folder of Main Multi 1.02
File trek.exe
GUID {18C94B21-9C7B-11D0-933A-00608CEA7318}
Path C:\BotF
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

some more:
{18C94B21-9C7B-11D0-933A-00608CEA7319} //HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications\BOTF:1.0.3 English

{18C94B21-9C7B-11D0-933A-00608CEA7342} //HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications\BOTF:Balance of Power

{18C94B21-9C7B-11D0-933A-00608CEA7359} //HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications\BOTF:Flocke Tournament Mod

{18C94B21-9C7B-11D0-933A-00608CEA7350} //HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications\BOTF:UDM III

{18C94B21-9C7B-11D0-933A-00608CEA7321} //HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications\BOTF:UNCivil Wars

backup registry before you start with editing it

I don't even have a network tab in the dxdiag!
But I'm using vista, so it might be different. ;)

Edit: You should read that thread, it might help: viewtopic.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=43&start=33

I started using my laptop which is XP non 64 to test again, that didnt even work got same error. As soon as i removed router and plugged directly in it worked on my laptop with XP. Since my comp is wireless i cant test 64 w/o router to see if im even on the right track. Why would it work w/o router and not with it?

YES ALL PORTS ARE FORWARDED AND I PASS THE TEST

Also crazy thnx for your post, before you actually typed it i took teh libery of copying the registery from my xp computer and pasting it :-)

Also tried putting it on DMZ didnt work either
