well right now I am using Celestia 1.6.0 which can be downloaded @ http://www.shatters.net/celestia with several addons (mostly Star Trek ones, but also some other genres).
UE has a built in tga converter which converts images to png, and also an animation generator which will take those images in sequence to create an animation of the planet/star/celestial object you wish to portray...
If u wanna find out more about it go download it and play around with it thats what I did

Whilst I think that this work is great, and makes the interface look more realistic, Bear-in-mind that by using more detailed graphics, you will increase the file sizes of the animations. The constant loading of these, combined with the memory leak, may slow the game down.
I could be wrong, and I hope I am.

thanks for your input, and I assure u that this will be tested thoroughly before the final release of the new textures... not to sound mean, but i hope ur wrong too
Sol is 90% complete... all needs to be done is addition of asteroid belt to separate inner and outer Sol (which involves adding a planet slot) which i dont kno how to do yet

unfortunately the corona is combined with the same animations as the star, and while it would look nice to have an animated corona, the graphics files for Sol in Celestia do not allow for a corona small enough to be placed in without the animation being 'cloudy' meaning not completely transparent...sean_west wrote:This looks fantastic Tethys.
Rather than animated stars, is it possible to animate the graphics for the corona, I see from your last screen that you have removed it.
besides, single framed animations are a LOT smaller then the animations i was planning on having (25 kb as opposed to 1.2 MB)
Pluto is long gonestardust wrote:A quick word about adding planets. You can have a MAXIMUM of nine planets in a system.
Try ten and the game will laugh in your face before booting your butt back to the desktop
So if you're thinking of asteroids in Sol then Pluto's going to have to make way.
and just wait til u see what I have planned for the Borg and Dominion
