Updated ship packs?

Post by Darth_Windu »

Yep...it's me again.

So here I am quite happily adding new ships left, right and centre, when I suddenly run into a problem. Now Thunderchero's idea of making all ships in UDM (and the associated ship pack) scaled at 150% is a fantastic idea.

BUT.

Now I'm trying to add the Nova-class as the Science Ship II; the NX-01 as the Destroyer I; TOS Romulan Bird of Prey as the Destroyer I etc, but none of them are in 150% scale. My concern would be that if I downscale one ship to match the, say, Nova scale, then put it back up, the Nova would be huge. Things like the 'Ship Pack 1' and 'Ship Pack 2' have some great models, but due to this their use is limited with adding them to a large ship list. Has anyone (or will anyone) done any project to match the scaling of UDM and make all ships 150%?

Thanks folks :)

Hi Darth_Windu,

The only way to match scales as of right now (that I know of) is to add models you want to different phaser slots and scale them all manually in UE. In other words trek.exe can only have so many phaser slots but each can have up to three models (e.g. H, H_, H__) or only two (H1, H1_) or one (RH1). If you use vanilla models they cannot be combined with any other ship model. Certain models that have 8 phaser hardpoints (like TCs models) are not compatible with Dr_Breens models of 8 pts without doing some hex editing here is a post to set 8 phasers for "TC standard" :) viewtopic.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1638. It basically will take a lot of testing to get models into proper slots so when you scale them they scale correctly to canon size (if that's what you're going for). However you scale them or whatever models you add always remember that you cannot go over 127 texture palettes or the game crashes. As how to combine palettes is a very tricky and complex process (to me anyway lol) and TC made a post for it in the modding section IIRC. But you should really check out the structured modding index in the Solutions to Bugfixes forum as it does really give you a great deal of knowledge to modding BotF. Good luck and hope this helps you.

Hi xDx, thanks for the reply. I do know how to add the ships, it's just a scale issue. For example, I use most of the ships from TC's UDM3 ship pack, all of which are scaled at 150%. In Ship Pack 1 there is a Romulan Bird of Prey. Great, BUT it's scaled at 110% and only has 6 phaser slots. That means that it can't be added to the same slot as one from the UDM3 pack due to the scale and the number of phasers.

Hence, I'm wondering if anyone would look at re-releasing all ships in a standardised format - 8 phaser slots and 150% scale. This would make adding new ships an absolute breeze, rather than restricting what can and can't be imported.

As an aside I did find an NX-01 on this site, which looks fantastic, but I'm still after the Romulan BoP, Klingon Raptor-class (Ent) and Klingon D7. The BoP in Ship Pack 1 looks amazing, but can't be used for the reasons above.

sorry Darth_Windu,

The problem is only the original creator has the files needed (if they still have the files) to properly rescale models quickly. And most of the models you are wanting to use those creators have not visited the forum in many years. So to do as you asked all those models would need to be recreated from scratch basicly. And recreating each model could take hours to do or take weeks. Just redoing all the models from UDM using the new scale method took me over 6 months working on them 4-6 hours per day. So with all those models I estimate it would take 1 person over a year.

Ah...well...that sucks :(. Mind you, I realised I was an idiot and simply put two of the UDM ships on the same phaser slot and the original Rom BoP on its own.

Does anyone know if there's a D7 model for BotF? Not the vanilla one, but a good one?

There are a few D7's, and the vanilla retextured I personally think looks very nice. But the D7 is related to the K'tinga, the K'tinga being a few meters larger (which is simple scaling in UE)

Ah, where would I find your re-texture Tethys? I found the TOS Romulan Bird of Prey and the Klingon Raptor-class, just need the D7 to complete the collection.

The big difference between the D7 and K't'inga is the colouring. The K't'inga has all of the detailing on it, whilst the D7 is fairly plain, with a medium grey overall colour. Actually a re-skin of something like Thunderchero's K't'inga from the UDM ship pack would work perfectly.

Hmm, then I do not believe there is a D7, I must have used a K'tinga and made the scale smaller. If you have photoshop you can edit the texture yourself Im pretty sure.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. Im sure you know how to add models but what you can do is add the models to various phaser slots that you want and remove all upgrades for a particular empire. Then use mudd cheat to build all ships and enter combat to see how they are all scaled to each other. Make notes on which ones need to be scaled smaller or larger then jump into UE and edit scale. Note, it might take a lot of testing and moving ship models to different slots to find the right scale that you want. Once your happy with models just readjust ship upgardes and your good to go. :) This is how I adjusted scale for my models in UDM4 using TCs models as a base reference. I don't know if this is the way the other modders do it but it seemed to work for me. This is what I meant about the testing aspect in my post. As far as the D7 none except the retexture that Tethys is talking about is as good so like he said you can change the palette on it to give it a more grayish color ( you might lose some detail in the model though). Hope this better helps you. Good luck

Actually, in your Galaxy Mod, there is a difference in coloring between the Klingon K'tinga and the Romulan one. the Romulan one could be used as a D7.

I checked it out, and whilst there are a few differences, it's still not a D7. To show exactly what I mean, we have pics of a K't'inga:

and a D7:

The Romulan version would also ideally have a Bird of Prey-like bird painting on the underside, ala:
