Well I had a nice "glitch". The Calamarians attacked a Starbase (Ultimate Mod being played) with no ships. The Starbase would fire doing no damage and the Calamarians wouldn't move or attack so no damage was being done to Starbase. Thus it was an endless loop with no way to exit combat short of terminating trek.exe with end task. Frak I say!
So any ideas on dealing with situations like that?

sounds like a combat distance problem.
If you want load game with MUDD before end of turn press F9 (or what ever shows all systems) this will activate tevents.log
the tevents.log will be created in install folder with info on how far apart/damage the starbase and Calamarian are in combat. this will give you an idea on how much to increase max firing range.

It is Ultimate Mod 5 (UM5). I figured the distance for the Starbase needs to be upped, but what a pain. I am guessing that even if ships were at the Starbase it still wouldn't matter as I don't recall the Calamarians ever moving. So unless the ships had the firepower to destroy them the Starbase would just sit there firing with nothing happening.

True, but I kind of like events as it adds more challenge. The issue is the Calamarians won't move because if they did they would get closer and closer to the Starbase and eventually one would be destroyed.
