When do you think the new installer will be ready for general release?

good question, at the current rate of progress I would say 2-3 weeks for first open beta, but I am also still hoping QD will find some time to create a couple small programs for adding files to sound and alt res. These programs would reduce over all installer size only. although this might delay my estimates.

as for stable "general release" This would depend on beta testing results, but I would guess by Christmas at the latest?

I understand and good luck with the rest of the development.

Hi Everyone,

progress update,

I am currently re-evaluating everything. Earlier this week QD was able to finish the tools for the alt and snd files. After applying them to a few mods it became clear I could improve and reduce installer size even more. Now this will take some time to sort though all the files and re-write installer script. So my earlier beta release estimates are no longer realistic.

Plus I am starting to have some PC issues, it looks like my ssd hard drive is having issues. I will try to reset it to factory specs, but fear I will need to replace it soon. only good thing is, this is my system hard drive and holds no important data.

Update... well kinda

Even with my computer issues I have made a little progress. With the introduction of Qd's alt and snd tools and better sorting of german/english files I had to go backwards a lot, and re-script each mod to use those tools/files. but the reduction of installer size has been very good so far. I have edited versions; vanilla, ECM, UDM, BOP, AAM and reduced install by almost 300mb (only 653 mb). I am also going to try to see if I can use a shared dominion/fed gui for a couple mods that already use them for 1024 and 1366 versions. But this is just a little more scripting.

i am hoping to have first beta by Halloween (that is scary just by it's self)

I finished editing script for mods I already added prior to sound and alt tools.

here is current lists of mods in "all in one" installer.
list.jpg
list.jpg (98.07 KiB) Viewed 6439 times
before tools it was 1.65 gb
after tools it is 1.09 gb

all mods has option to install 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1366 x 768 (except UM5 and AFC mods, they have no 800 x 600 since they were released in 1024 x 768)

Also if German is selected at start of installer, it would install the best possible German GUI, and voices.
Note; most generated text from lecicon, ship list, build list would still be 100% english. These files would require massive manual translations.

I still have at least 6 more mods to add. but still need to go though older files to see how many more will be added after that.

Hi Everyone,

Update,

I added the last 4 mods?
list.jpg
list.jpg (109.6 KiB) Viewed 6313 times
current installer size 1.11gb
with all versions installed at 1366 x 768 disk space required 11.6 gb
25 installable versions (6 with normal and large versions) 31 total versions on DxWnd
91 different GUI combinations
182 different gui and langage combinations
this does not count the special options such as AAM minor ship build option, hob fix or zoomed in view options

all versions will install English and German (since most mods were only released in English, only un-edited files will be in German language)

Due to uninstaller issues each mod must be installed one at a time, but multiple instances can be ran at same time. My last test install of all mods I had 9 installers running at one point at the same time.

tools; (should be installed first for proper setting of install paths for DxWnd)
DxWnd (fullscreen and windowed)
Qd's Patcher (new patch folders with UDM3, UCW2.0 and ECM 4.0 changes)
Dcer's UE (version UE 0.7.2dev5c) java required and link provided

all mods have a documentation folder in start menu with readme and link to support page.

Galaxy mod Borg GUI completed in all 3 sizes (800, 1024 and 1366)

unfortunately, the update option was not possible to be added as I hoped.

I will do more testing this week for any major issue myself, but thanks to captaindusk doing some early German testing most of the major issue have been resolved already.

Due to the massive amount of combinations available, it would be impossible to test every combination by one person.

I am planning on first beta release candidate by this weekend or next weekend (any new beta release candidate would be released on Fridays)

Hi Everyone,

it looks like this project will be delayed a little longer. I am having some problems getting the uninstaller to work the way I want it to.

If anyone knows pascal code I could use a little help.

Hi Everyone,

After getting excellent coding assistance from Flocke, We were able to add individual listings for each component to Add/remove programs in control panel.

So I am hoping for first open release candidate this Friday.
