Charge is probably the most used action. Can't often go wrong with that. Strafe is best against circling. Circling can be good against a strong charge. And the latest mp fashion was to ram at some point. :mrgreen:

It's a bit of rock, paper, scissors. I can't remember a good explanation of these tactics here in the forum. Might have to dig really deep to find a couple of good explanatory posts.

There are also a lot of hidden options and hotkeys regarding tactic mode. It's really surprising. Tab and backspace keys come to mind. But I haven't played in a long long time, so I can't really help here. When in doubt, ask Thunderchero (the uber-human-search function of afc) ;)

One of the most enthusing games I remember was with Dissy I think when he caught my main battle fleet with an upgraded klingon destroyer fleet vaporizing it while I was close to upgrading my huge destroyer fleet as well and managed to intercept and vaporize his destroyer fleet just a few turns later thanks to my upgraded and fully cloaked hundred destroyer 2 or so.
Yep that's alot fun, but it's also a little sad there are so many flaws of the game to abuse, specially the buy-upgrade-and-scrap trick. It's not the buildup and the huge fleets that's so much fun nor the superiority or even to win, but it's the moment of surprise when you trick your opponent.

Other than the upgrade-and-scrap trick a major income always has been to go raiding with an experienced destroyer fleet. Or of course member some advanced minors. Or the best was when you got in war with the Ferengi AI while it feared your mighty fleet and got busy with another major. That alone easily brings up a few hundred thousand credits they offer for a peace treaty when the AI empire is grown. Break it and they might offer another one. They are so stupid.

udm allows for large fleets with maximum support.... try it

So does UDM lower the cost of fleets in both build and maintenance while upping the maximum size of the planetary populations?
I still haven't gotten around to trying the mods, but I'm getting interested. On the other hand I should probably install BotF on my modern computer instead of the old 1ghz system if I'm going to handle such large fleets.

we routinely field up to 20 fleets of 18 ships per fleet strong in our MP games.... each.

I thought the limit was nine ships per task force. Does UDM double that?
